question about the cemetery in superga
by pruteanu
I recently found out that a friend of mine died in Torino Italy and that he is buried there. His sister could not remember the name of the church cemetery but said it was neat where the football team was "buried". Could you tell me if there are other graves in this cemetery or is it strictly a tourist attraction now? thank you for any info.

Superga is the Basilica where several members of the Savoy dinasty are buried in its crypt. There is no other cemetery there.
Normally, churches don't have a cemetery. I assume it must then be a cemetery in some town or village in the immediate surroundings. You might check for places such as Reaglie, Pecetto Torinese, Revigliasco, Pino Torinese. Beyond this radius the number of places could become too large to mention.
You might take a look at a detailed map at www.viamichelin.it
Hope it helps.
Ciao

I used to pass by the cemetary in Pino Torinese a few times a week (I'm guessing there is only one). It's at the top of Via Maria Christina. You can get there by taking bus #30 to Via Roma in Pino Torinese and just walking up the big hill (ask for directions to "Ferrero", as the cemetary and the chocolatier's corporate offices seem to share a parking lot). However, I didn't ever notice anything to indicate a connection to the football team (from the outside).

The tragic crash of the plane carrying the "Grande Torino" Football Club
Another Turin closed its season of glory here: the Grande Torino Football team. On May 4 1949, the aircraft carrying the footballers back home from a victorious match played at Lisbon crashed against the base of the rear wall of the Basilica complex, maybe due to adverse weather conditions.
31 died: all the regular and reserve team members, the six people accompanying them and the air crew. A great plaque placed on the crash area commemorates the tragedy and is the destination of many pilgrimages.

Rivoli
by Jetgirly
Located just outside Torino, Rivoli is a small suburb with a beautiful medeival center. Cobblestone streets lead the way up to the Castello at the top of a hill, on your way you will pass tiny boutiques and ice-cream parlours (gelaterias). To get there, take the #36 bus to the end of the line.

It is just arrived in Torino the double deck bus operated by City Sightseeing. It offer a tour of the city with a multi lingual commentary (Italian, English, French, German, Spanish and Russian too).
Nine stops along the way on a circular path. It departs from Piazza Castello, to Piazza Vittorio then across the river Po up to Monte Cappuccini, then along the Po until Valentino Park, coming back to Valentino Castle, Piazza Carlo Felice (main train station), and then again to Piazza Castello passing by via XX Settembre.
It takes one hour to do the trip, and because there is just one bus, it means that it pass at any stop every one hour ;-)
This is the schedule so far:
10 am to 6 pm until 13th january 2008,
10 am to 4 pm until 29th february 2008,
10 am to 6 pm until 30th june 2008
sevend days a week
The fare is 15 euro (10 euro until the end of 2007). Half price for the child up to 15y.
(Discount for family)
Osteria Antiche Sere is a well...
by mauro_pd
Osteria Antiche Sere is a well conducted 'osteria' not in the real downtown of Turin. Trust the people there, they can really suggest the best for your taste depending on what's going on in the kitchen. Anyhow the theme is 'traditional' cuisine of the region.
