have a look at downtown... start from Via Garibaldi, then you'll find yoursel in Piazza Castello: Royal castle on your left, Palazzo Madama in front of you, and via Roma on your right. In a word, the most beautiful site! Superga Hill... from where you can see Turin's panorama...

Piazza CNL e la statua della Dora
by draguza
In this square, called CNL, you can find two big statues, one representing an old man, and the other one a young woman. Below each of the two statues, you will see a small fountain.
The fountain at the man's foot represents river PO, while the fountain at the woman feet represents river DORA
This is the first square you meet when walking out of Train Station Porta Nuova and going towards via Roma
METRO UPDATE 2008
by marco2005
Two years old Metro system runs through the city of Torino (from west to east) connecting the parking lot called "Fermi" to the very center of the city at Train Station "Torino Porta Nuova".
This is convenient for people reaching Torino from the mountain valleys or the western highway ring. It takes 15 minutes to do all the ride long. Passing by the other train station called "Torino Porta Susa" (be aware that for now the Metro station for Porta Susa is "XVIII dicembre").
Our Metro is a baby one. Smaller then usual, I've seen others like this in some international airport connecting different terminals. It is fully automatic and has an high train frequency, one every 3 minutes usually, so you do not have to waste time waiting. By the way see a curiosity at bottom.
The ticket fare is 1 euro (same ticket that can be used on bus or tram for 70 minutes, but for only one ride in Metro)
In every Metro station there are automatic (and multilingual) vending machines where to buy the ticket (you can pay also with credit card) see photo.
Opening hours:
monday to friday 5.30 am 11.45 pm
saturday 5.30 am 1.30 am (of sunday)
sunday and public holiday 8.00 am 10.20 pm
here is a youtube video
here is the english page of the Metro website.
A curiosity:
The projection of film clips that have made the history of cinema accompany one’s platform waiting time (see photo) and remembers you that Torino hosts the Museum of Cinema.

Antica Trattoria della ROSA ROSSA review
Situated in a small street near the nice square "Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II", here we have a restaurant with traditional cuisine.
This is an historical place (I remember that it was yet a classic choice when I was in the closest Royal College Carlo Alberto 25 years ago).
If you are visiting this little town close to Turin, this deserve a stop.
And it can be also a cheap experience. On my last visit, we have a one course dinner for two people just for 37 euro.
The quality of the food is great.
Last visit on 11 jan 2006 donkey stew with polenta (thick corn mush): excellent 5/5 ;
fillet steak with artichokes: very good 4/5
