Turin - "Atrium" Information Center
by ant1606
UPDATE: As of September 2008, the "Atrium" facility has closed for good. It's not clear yet whether one or both of the twin modern buildings will be torn down, as the city administrators want to restore the original ambience of Piazza Solferino square. Use the information center located in Piazza Castello.
Good starting point for newcomers who need information.
Located in the center of Piazza Solferino, two glass-and-steel modern structures host exhibitions and presentations of the city, including a comprehensive introduction to the 2006 - XX Winter Olympic Games event.
These two pavillions host a Tourist Information Center and public bicycle rentals.
Free admission, open daily from 9.30 AM to 7.00 PM.

Giro d'Italia 2009 - 100 Years
by ant1606
Whether or not you're a bicycle enthusiast, a committed user or a professional, the Giro d'Italia would hook you up. Like it happens for the Tour de France and the Vuelta de Espana there's a lot of talk before, during and after the event - some would deem it too much talk - that has been happening for a whole century. The Giro 2009 was actually the 92nd edition, due to WWII interruption, but the 100-year celebration of the event. Stage 11 started from Torino.
If you plan to attend the event - anywhere in Italy near the race roads - be aware of road closures before and after the passage (one hour or more) which can cause traffic havoc.
Stages through the mountains of Piemonte are included in every edition and it's a nice occasion to attend and see some live action and the pink paraphernalia around the riders. Going up the narrow ribbon of mountain roads requires good planning. Some prefer to reach the spot the day before and sleep in a tent or a camper, and wait to leave several hours after the event to avoid traffic nightmares.
Made in Torino
by ant1606 about SPACCIO - Robe di Kappa
Iconic brand name born and raised in Torino, Robe di Kappa has placed its logo onto the jerseys of a great number of domestic and foreign sports teams. Production had long been moved abroad but part of the former city manufacturing plant was dedicated to the "Spaccio" (it means "outlet"), where RdK and other brands collections can be found at interesting prices. This includes "Superga", the omnipresent canvas shoes around the feet of Italians during the 70s and the 80s.
Net really "Made in Torino" anymore but surely the brand is, as well as the company headquarters sitting in the same downtown building.
A visit can also be a pleasant occasion to experience the "Fratelli la Cozza" restaurant, just next door and part of the same building complex. Excellent food including one among the best pizza in town in a uniquely fancy and relaxed atmosphere. Casual and sports clothing, footwear. Outlet price tags.
