Connections Bari airport to bari train station?

by chocl8

Is there a quick connection between the airport and the train station?

This sort of information is almost always found at the airport's website. See http://www.seap-puglia.it/default.asp?idlingua=2&idContenuto=281
and look at the second bus line: Tempesta

What time are you arriving at the airport, and when train do you need to catch?

Thanks for your answer. We are supposed to arrive Bari airport at 5pm and arrive in Monopoli as early in the evening as possible.

OK. The bus schedule that I pointed to says that the bus departures are tied to scheduled plane arrivals (which is why the bus departures are a bit irregular).

I am guessing that they are expecting you to make the bus at 17:45 (the next one after that is 19:10). The 17:45 bus arrives at the train station about 18:15.

There is a regional train (one that stops at every station) that leaves at 18:26 and gets into Monopoli at 19:03; the fare is 2.60 euro. If you miss that, there is a EurostarCity train that leaves at 18:57 and the first stop is at Monopoli at 19:19, but the fare is 8.60 euro. Note that reservations are required on this latter train, but they will sell you a seat at the last minute if there are seats to be had. This means that there is a slight chance that the train will be sold out (just so you're mentally prepared); I would not try to buy these tickets in advance, but just wing it, because you'll get to Monopoli that evening in any case - regional trains don't have reserved seats; as long as there is room to stand, you can get on, and there are regional trains later in the evening.

Note: this description is for every day except Sunday; on Sundays and holidays, local schedules are often reduced. Please see www.trenitalia.com (look for English at the top), and check for your date.

Travel Tips for Bari

Safety and police in Bari's Old Town

by BlueLlama

So many things have been said on this subject - many negative - that I thought it worth mentioning that I found the area to be very tranquil. Obviously, my perspective might have been different if my camera had been stolen or if I'd been mugged, but then that has happened in other cities and they don't have the ropy reputation Bari has acquired. I have to say that I did visit in the daytime only so this may not apply after dark.

What I did notice is that there was a certain police presence on the streets. A group of municipal police were standing in the shade in the piazza where San Nicola basilica is siuated keeping an eye open and there were also cars and scooters with state police touring the streets. Not so many that it looked like there was a difficult security situation, but enough that they are visible and that if you end up getting lost you can be sure to find an officer soon enough to give directions. Nevertheless, so deserted were the streets when I visited in early July that there were almost more police than tourists and locals!

Talking of other people, tourists were walking about with cameras on display to the same extent as anywhere else in Italy - as did I. I didn't feel that there was a greatly elevated risk in these streets. Locals were perfectly polite and the worst thing you'll probably encounter is teenagers gigglingly trying out their English on you.

In short, Bari's reputation has either been exaggerated or it has really cleaned up its act. In fact, I would say to anyone who has visited Genoa that by way of comparison that city has a much seedier feel in its old quarter.

Polignano.

by Basandro

Polignano a mare (polignano on the see - there is no other polignano, btw) is a gourgeous village next to Bari, approximately 20 km in south direction.
Once you are there you can't miss the wonderfull sightseeing from the old town terrace.
But the most unbeatable feature of Polignano is tha Ice Cream (with I and C in capitals letter).
From the main square you have several possibility. I would suggest Bar Turismo, Bella Blu and Il Mago del Gelo.
Details will follow....sometimes.

The Cathedral of San Sabino

by hquittner

The 12C Duomo wa dedicated to San Sabino . (I do not know him and this dedication is not widely recorded in travel books). We were not takento the church so I have only a picture of the Campanile captured over the squalid tenements between it and the waterfront as we drove away. There is at least one picture of itin the VT Tips if you can find it.

Bari Page

I was only in Bari for a couple hours. Came in to Bari by ferry from Patrai (Greece) and caught a train to Naples. Only thing I know is that the girl at the Tourist Information center at the port was very nice and if you have any questions when you arrive into the Bari port make sure you go to her. She's been there for a long time so I assume she should still be there.
