Getting to Bari from Rome

by gb8.205

I land in Rome and have to come to Bari for a conference. I was thinking of taking a bus? Do I have to make reservations in advance? And If I end up driving a rental, how much does it cost on an average?

thanks for your help.

Marozzi runs a bus from Rome to Bari (well, so does SITA but not conveniently).

The website is www.marozzivt.it . Tomorrow, for example, there will be buses leaving at 07:30, 11:00, 15:30, and 23:59. The trip takes about 5 and a half hours.

This website is only in Italian.

Note that the bus leaves from Roma Tiburtina (a train station east of Roma Termini) and appears to arrive at Via Giuseppe Capruzzi in Bari (there are 3 Capruzzi streets in Bari, so I'm not positive which one - but this one is across the tracks from the main train station, which makes sense).

When you look at the trenitalia website as noted above, you will see 5 direct trains a day. All of these trains require reservations, but if there are seats available (almost always the case), they will sell them to you when you walk up at the last minute. Note that these trains all leave from Roma Termini. Also note that they take 4 hours or so (except for the first one, which you couldn't catch from the airport anyway).

Anyway, tell us which airport you are landing at (Fiumicino or Cimapino) and we'll tell you how to get from A to B...

Much more sensible to take a train than a bus.

Use

http://trenitalia.it/homepage_en.html

to give you train times, details and fares in English.

From Fiumicino the easiest way is to take the Leonardo Express train from the airport. It stops at Rome Termini, where you will catch the train to Bari.

From Ciampino, take the Terravision bus into Rome:

http://www.terravision.eu/rome_ciampino.html

It too stops at Termini station, so your onward journey will be easy.

Ticket machines at Termini are easy to use and have English language options. You do not need to book online in advance unless you wish to do so.

You will see that the replies above gave the OP detailed information about both train and bus services to Bari. As the question was posted in June, no doubt the journey has already been made.

'NEL BLU DIPINTO DI BLU'............

Basilica of S. Nicola: The Saint's Crypt . 5

by hquittner

The crypt windows are of "translucent" marble or alabaster making it rather dark. There are 7x4 ancient columns and capitals all different in material, all hastily assembled from the numerous Greek ruins round about. There is a silver altar and the Saint's remains beneath behind a grille. Upon arrival the relics were exuding a liquid (which was called "manna") which had miraculous protective properties. The phenomenon and its effects have continued to this day.(Source :crypt condensation?). Small vials of this are provided to piilgrims in some manner . I did not see any place selling them, but we were told every believer in Bari keeps a vial in their home or on their boat. Obviously how the fluid is presently obtained is a church secret.
The crypt is floored with a coarse but colorful mosaic tilework.

"DONT GO"

I SPENT TWO MONTHS IN BARI AND LET ME TELL YOU IT WAS THE WORST VACATION I COULD HAVE EVER SPENT. BEACHES WERE DIRTY PEOPLE THERE ARE UNCIVILIZED AND I HAD MY VIDEO CAMERA STOLEN WHILE ON THE BEACH. I COULD HONESTLY SAY IT IS DEFINETALY A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY.
