Gallipoli - travel around
Hi, im going to north italy this month. i will start my travel from Gallipoli, so would you have to suggest me daytrips around Gallipoli or others city to stay?
Thank you
Re: Gallipoli - travel around
Hello Naxela!
Glad to suggest you something but I need to understand better if you are going to plan "something around Gallipoli and after go to the North" or "a tour with various steps from South to North of Italy".
Around Gallipoli, if possible, hire a car and visit at least:
- Torre Pali beach
- Santa Maria di Leuca
- Otranto
- Lecce
I think three, four, days are sufficient.
If you need I could suggest you a hotel in a strategic position; I booked it on my 2007 summer vacations. The village name is Salve, it's not so far from Santa Maria di Leuca and about 40 minutes by car far from Gallipoli.
Anyway let me know better if after some days in Gallipoli you'd like to go directly to the North or take a long trip, for example, in Rome, Florence, Pisa, Siena and so on.
And important, how many days will you spend in Italy?
Sincerly,
Fabrizio
Re: Gallipoli - travel around
At fist i would like to thank you, you are very helpful!
I havent already choose a route, i am at the planning stage of my trip.
The only sure thing is i will travel from Corfu to Bari.
At this moment, i am between of two routes.
The first is Salerno and around, and the second is Calabria-but for this i havent found something specific. Do you have any idea where to stay around Calabria and where to go? My trip will last for a week.
And of course im going to look also for your propose to Salve.

Re: Gallipoli - travel around
Mmm...
Is it your first time in Italy? If so I suggest you, between South Campania (Salerno) and Calabria, to visit Calabria Region. I have not yet visited Calabria so I'm very generic; try this web site
http://www.turiscalabria.it/Default.asp?lang=eng
Anyway think about Puglia Region (Gallipoli and so); from Bari you go to south and maybe, if you think to go directly to the North, consider low cost flights from Brindisi Airport.
Re: Gallipoli - travel around
Isnt my first time to Italy, i have travelled many times before but from Firenze to North.
This time i would like some energetic days at the south(we would like to go to beavhes also)- beacause is nearest to me (at my first post i wrote north but i meant south-eveyrime im confused with it).
Could you tell me about the hotel that you suggested me?
Thank you
Re: Gallipoli - travel around
From Florence to extreme South is all valid: isn't it?
Perfect.
First of all, about hotel I told you, I have taken a look about prices...
...they have increased too much!
Anyway this is the internet site: http://www.arcahotel.it/
Let me some days to retrieve all info you need by one my friend living near "Santa Maria di Leuca" and by an other one who knows many places in South of Italy! In this way I am sure I shall suggest you the best actual places and some more convenient hotels in the South.
Could you tell me how many days you have planned to stay in Italy? It's an important detail because I can calibrate for you what and how much time dedicate in places I shall suggest you.
Let's keep in touch.
Fabrizio

Re: Gallipoli - travel around
I'm still waiting replies by my friend living in Morciano di Leuca (not so far from Santa Maria di Leuca) to give you some suggests about Salento.
Anyway, waiting for him, I'd suggest you also:
- ALIMINI lake (it's very peaceful, I don't know if you are interested for)
- PONTE CIOLO - It's not so simple to find. It is not properly a "beach" under a bridge of the road on Adriatic Coast side it's about 8 km far from Santa Maria di Leuca (take a look on Google Maps searching "Ponte Ciolo, Gagliano del Capo"). Well, some CRAZY people take position to dive on the bridge! More that 30 meters! Too crazy!
- GROTTA ZINZULUSA (on Adriatic Coast side)
- ALBEROBELLO (small village with "TRULLI"); take a look about on images of Google, maybe you could consider it.
About nightlife:
- LIDO AZZURRO (It was our favourite! take a look on "http://www.lidoazzurro.org/index.php")
- GIBO' (I did not stay but it is well known: http://www.gibo.it/)
Near the beach, my favurite was "KAIBO"!!!
Take a look on http://www.kaibo.it/
The internet site is cured by my friend from Morciano di Leuca!

Re: Gallipoli - travel around
Very glad to know your experiences in Salento!
It's the only way I have to breathe this Summer 'cause I have broken a bone of my left foot and now I must stay at home all July and August months!
Anyway, it's life...
I remember...
...in Santa Maria di Leuca don't miss MARTINUCCI CAFFETTERIA to have an unforgettable breakfast after a night in Lido Azzurro!
You find it near "Via C. Raho", on route SP74b, which is northern the one (route SP214) passing beside of Lido Azzurro; Martinucci is far less than 500 meters from Lido Azzurro.
I still remember well the last night in Lido Azzurro! Before to go to Martinucci, we went by car to "Via Gioacchino Toma" (on the coast about 1km east from Lido Azzurro). It was about 4.00am, we parked the car and stayed there for about two hours watching the vessels exiting from the port. There were silence, only the "bop-bop-bop" of the vessels; incredible sunrise atmosphere after a party night! And then... Let's go to Martinucci! Yeah!
OK Alexandra.
Have a GOOD STAY in Salento and sorry about my friend from Morciano di Leuca. I'm still waiting his suggestions! I think he is already in the beach! Aaargh!

Re: Gallipoli - travel around
Fabrizio hi again,
first of all i hope you get well soon!
Era meravigliosa! haha
We rented a car and we visited all the area of Salento. From Porto Cesareo, Gallipoli, Otranto, Lecce, Brindisi, Santa Maria de leuca (did you know that the word leuka means in greek white?), Gagliano del Capo (We stayed there at a BB - very good place and very nice people)
It was really really nice, very gentle people and we have a lot of fun!
Fabrizio i wish you a good summer, thank you a lot for everything
and if someday you'll come to Greece i'll give you the best tips!
Re: Gallipoli - travel around
