We are visiting italy in September. We start in Rome and want to visit Asissi and then San Giovanni Rotondo. We plan on staying in Rome the first couple of nights and then hiring a car. We will visit Asissi for a couple of days and then plan on driving to San Giovanni Rotondo. What is the best way to make this journey. What is the most direct route? Will it be necessary to stop overnight on this journey?
Rome to Assisi is about a 2 hour drive so unless you want to do serious sightseeing, you will not need to stop on the way. BTW, we love the Hotel Berti in Assisi. It's right in the wall of the old city and you can walk everywhere. There is parking available if you ask. Hotel Berti, Piazza San Pietro 24, Assisi (PG), Italia 06081 and you can contact them at: http://firstname.lastname@example.org or http://www.hotelberti.it
On the other hand, the drive from Assisi to San Giovanni Rotondo is nearly 5 hours, although a gorgeous drive along the Adriatic coast. You may want to stop overnight on that one. We stopped the night at Poggio del Sole Country House, Strada Giardino, 76, Città Sant’Angelo, 65013 ITALY and it was a dream. The views are fabulous and their restaurant is wonderful. It is very reasonable. You can contact them at: www. booking.com/directions.en.html?id=51172004 or
You should have a map or a GPS (probably with a map). You can check your routes at the web site listed above. http://www.viamichelin.com/
Enjoy your trip. You're going at a terrific time; it will be beautiful, especially in the south. Do take an umbrella though; it does rain sometimes.
Thank you Csillaqstoppos for your advice on getting from Asissi to San Giovanni Rotondo. Yes I hope to pray at St Pio's grave and shrine... I will remember your country. God Bless you too. Thanks again. From Millymonx
Thank you Beausoliel for your comprehensive advice on getting from Asissi to San Giovanni Rotondo. Also thank you for the hotel information and web connections. I will look into these. I will make sure I ( and my travel companions )have waterproof ponchos for any rain... easier to carry than umbrellas. Also we are travelling Ryanair and cutting down on weight is vital!!! Thank you again. From Millymonx.
Do you have any recommendations for a hotel in San Giovanni? I'd appreciate the info if you do. Thanks. Millymonx
