Agriturismo "Capretta Matilda": One real agritutismo
In 2005 we made a tour in the less known side of Tuscany, far away from the typical tourist’s paths, searching for authenticity. In Roccalbegna we found what we were looking for, in this wonderful agriturismo.
The room was simple but comfortable and clean and we had a patio where we could sit and enjoy a glass of wine or watch the stars in the silent nights.
Breakfast was served with home made marmalade and fresh cake baked by Sonia, along with fresh coffee and juice. She always made us a small package with pie and white pizza, to eat during the day.
Unique Quality: Antonio e Sonia Pastorelli, the owners of the place, are farmers for almost 30 years. When what they were earning from their work wasn’t enough anymore to bring bread on their table, they decided to open they house to the tourists.
The name of their agriturismo is also not a case: Matilda was their first red goat. Matilda was so nice and they loved het so much that they decided to name their agriturismo after her.
What they are trying to do is to save old tradition, raising their animal as they used to do centuries ago. The animals they have are also endangered species: the Maremmano and Amiata swines, Amiata donkey, Amiata sheep, Monte Cristo mountain goat, Maremma cows. They also have a red cat with a short tail.
They also have a small museum where you can see old tools.

Antica Locanda La Pietra: Wonderful Tuscan corner
My boyfriend and I, we’ve been in Roccalbegna in 2005, while doing a trip in the less known Tuscan corners.
One of the places we felt in love with, was Roccalbegna. It was quite a strategic choice as we wanted to be close enough to Saturnia, Sovana and Sorano.
We discovered the “Antica Locanda La Pietra” first as a restaurant. Food was great and unforgettable, all homemade with authentic passion and loyal to old Tuscan recipes
All the ingredients are genuine and they always have only fresh food.
They also have cooking courses so if you like to learn how to prepare some genuine dishes that’s the place to be!
. We went back in 2006 and this time we slept in the hotel. That was also a beautiful surprise: the room was characteristic, with old but comfortable furniture, incredibly clean and with a wonderful view on the valley.
Also this second time was a unique experience and we are planning to go back soon.
Unique Quality: Antica Locanda “La Pietra” is a small and romantic hotel in a less known side of Tuscany.
The locanda was born during the first half of the19th century by the work of the Francesco Ghini family, and these days the sixth generation is welcoming you. In this gorgeous hotel you will find a warm family atmosphere where guests are first and foremost friends.
The hotel has only 7 rooms so it’s never to crowd. You can enjoy a relaxed holiday or get involved on the activities they are organizing for their guest. About activities speaking, you’ll have a lot to choose from as their offering: cooking courses, excursions, cycling trips, wellbeing courses and horse riding.
