Hotel Suisse: Italian family hotel
I stayed in hotel Suisse for three nights in January 2003. The stay was not extraordinary, but definitely to my satisfaction. The hotel is a bit older than f.e. hotel Trieste (see other tip), and has not been refurbished for many years. The rooms and bathrooms are okay, the restaurant has good quality food and the lounge was fine.
During our stay, there was only one waiter who spoke a bit of German and English. Apparently he like the presence of non-Italians, as he paid lots of attention to us ('us' is my wife and me, and two friends of ours). For example, he did not bring us the standard deserts, but a selection of everything they served. And he kept on talking to us; which was very entertainable, as his English and German were only 'so-so'. One time we asked what kind of meat was on the menu and he started imitating rabbits as he did not know the German or English word for a rabbit. A nice memory!
Hotel Suisse is located in the main street of Roccaraso (Via Roma), right in the heart of the town. The central square is just 50 m away. If you go out a night, all the shops are just a few footsteps away.

Hotel Trieste: Excellent quality for modest prices
I stayed in Hotel Trieste in February 2004. The hotel has spacious rooms, which are well equipped and have private facilities. The hotel is a typical Italian family hotel, with an extensive animation programme for children. A small number of the staff speaks English or German.
Hotel Trieste is situated in the center of Roccaraso. Parking can be a problem, especially in the weekends. Like all other hotels in Roccaraso, hotel Trieste has a very small number of parking places. As the main ski area is a 10 minute drive from the village, everybody goes by car... and returns by car around 4 p.m.!
The best thing about hotel Trieste is the food. I've never eaten that good on a ski trip!
We paid EUR 56 per person per night for half board.

Hotel Iris: Ski lodge style
I didn't spend the night in Roccaraso - but I would have had a number of choices if I had wanted to. It seemed as if there are a considerable number of hotels offering comfortable accomodations for the ski-set.
