In June 2010 we stayed for a week in the hamlet of Pretaccione, in the 2 bedroom villa called Pinturicchio. The villa is located a little off the beaten track, down a dirt road and driveway, but only a 30 minute drive to Siena, and 4km from the nearest village, San Sano.
There are pretty gardens surrounding the buildings and a pool that is shared with the other villas/apartments. You would need a car if you were staying here, and plenty of parking is available.
Pinturicchio has a private courtyard at the front - nice but there are no views from it. A good place for breakfast on a sunny morning though, or relaxing with a book. Inside was the kitchen with table, a living area, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Kitchen was spacious and well stocked, and we made good use of it, choosing to eat all breakfasts and dinners at the villa.
There are terracotta floors through out - which look great, but I always find too cold (even in summer), and were not so good for our crawling baby's knees! The house is also set over different levels, with a few stairs between, which was also not great for those with little ones who want to try and climb stairs all the time...
The main bathroom was good with bathtub and separate shower. The 2nd bathroom had a shower and a musty smell. Both bedrooms decent size though smelt a bit musty too.
We didn't end up using the swimming pool as the weather wasn't hot enough, but we did sit on the grass beside it and enjoyed the views of the surrounding countryside.
I would recommend Pinturicchio to those on a budget (it was cheaper than a lot of other places in the area), and those who want a Thursday-Thursday rental (which is why we ended up there), but not recommend it to those with crawlers/toddlers.
