fertilia or alghero

by smillet

I was wondering if anyone had any input in terms of staying in fertilia instead of alghero? Fertilia has an inexpensive youth hostel -- but I am wondering if it's really worth it to stay ther instead of alghero? thanks for your help! alex

fertilia is on the main road that leads to alghero, its a small quiet place and close to where we stayed at the light blue.

If you stay get a car cause ts 5 miles each way in a cab. what place are you staying at? have you seen my page our hotel is about 1 mile out of fertilia

Travel Tips for Alghero

A unique experience!

by oneonta_ni about Palau Real

Palau Real is in a 15th century palace and had an eclectic mix of decor. We were led to a table in the corner near a cosy fire. Not long after we sat down, a chef went over to the fire and I realised that there was a grill coming out from around the fireplace. The chef scooped coals from the fire and placed them under the grill. Next he began to grill vegetables which became the garnishes on the main course plates. He also grilled all manor of fish and meat.
The atmosphere was nice and the service was very good. The grill was very unique, too. We had:

Starters - octopus in a tomato sauce, thin slices of dried beef (similar to parma ham) with shavings of parmesan and rocket.

Pasta - ravioli with ricotta and spinach in butter and bottarga, seafood linguini

Mains - Swordfish grilled on the fire and served with the grilled veggies

Dessert - panna cotta with cherry sauce and seadas - a typical Sardinian dessert consisting of a cheese filled pastry which is fried until light and crispy and served with a honey lemon sauce. It is very tasty.

fortress sardegna

"a secret the Italians would like to keep"

Alghero is a pretty little fishing town in the North West corner of Sardegna.
It remains refreshingly unspoilt. Originally built as a fortress port in the 12th century you can stll see the massive stone walls and watchtowers.
Alghero still retains its old world charm, even though us touris have now found it.

"old ways"

Walking through the streets, everywhere you look there are retired folk(men)sitting in or outside the cooperativi drinking vermentino and telling each other tall stories of the sea. Tradition dies hard here.
