Fortunately we never made it to the bar - a waiter in our hotel who once worked there warned us about the cost of drinks (apparently it's not unusual to spend 25 euros on 1 drink, with wines exceeding 1000 euros a bottle). Wisely then, we decided to sneek in and have a look gratis-styleeee.
This is a fantastic hotel and worth a look, but you've got to be seriously brewstered to stay here. We dressed up one evening and asked if we could have a look round on the pretence we were thinking of staying there.
Think they rumbled us though....

Sardegna is a huge island and there are many beautiful places to stay. There are also lots of websites with hotel informations, so each and every one has to find his/her suitable place to stay and to enjoy!
We based ourselves in Cagliari and stayed at a wonderful little bed & breakfast called Il Girasole - the Sunflower, a place that we will always return to and that we can wholeheartedly recommend!
Centrally located, friendly, spacious rooms, delicious breakfast and a host who goes out of his way to help you make your stay in Sardegna as enjoyable as possible!

The setting is quite charming and well maintained by the relaxed staff.
Being such a small hotel the facilities are somewhat limited compared to bigger hotels, but it easily deserves a rating somewhere between three and four stars.
The village it is set in is up in the mountains and is very must the 'arty' village of Northern Sardinia, with many artist living around the village square.
This place provided an excellent base for us to explore the area .
Some of the rooms lead directly out onto the shady pool area...you can alomost imagine that you are in a private villa ! We spent a week in full board at this hotel. Everything was very good except two things:
1 - There was no conditioned air, and how we missed it... We had a rented car, and after lunch, we always went somewhere, basically to cool a bit.
2 - There is not much to see around, except nature, what becomes monotonous.
The beach was warm (with algae everywhere), the animation almost Spanish (and that is a compliment), and the week passed quickly.

The Villa Las Tronas has once been a resort of the Italian royal family and it is probably the most luxurious hotel Alghero can offer. The rooms are just gorgeous, the service was really good. The hotel has a small park and a seaside terrace with marvelous views on the Mediterranean. It is very conveniently located, you can reach the Old Town of Alghero in about 5 minutes on foot.
It is a bit "posh" yet you never feel out of place! The experience comes at a price (roughly 150,- to 280 for a double), but if you want to give yourself a real treat (honeymoon), you should think of staying for a night or two. This 5-star-hotel feels just like the posh hotels in the old Agatha Christie-movies (meant as a compliment). Alghero is a very pretty city that should not be missed if you visit Sardegna. This place is what Sardinians describe as an Agri-tourismo. Basically a B&B in a quiet country setting that used to be a farm house. This place was an old donkey sanctuary I think. There are different rates of accommodation but we stayed in the old stables area. The room was nicely decorated in a kind of rustic Italian country style. Comfy bed, decent ensuite and a view over to the swimming pool. The breakfast was the best we had had all holiday with homemade jams, a vast array of pastries as well as fruit, cheese, local honey etc etc. The hosts Laura and Alberto are lovely. In the part where we stayed there was a small guest kitchen with a dining area so it meant you could self cater, and there was a fridge to store things in. There is an area called Zona Relax which has comfy chairs and hammocks for you to sleep in. This is a totally relaxing place to stay and we would return without hesitation.
Apart from the hammock area this is one of the few agri-tourismo's that have a pool and it is a lovely one too. There are also donkeys in the nearby field. It is well located for driving around the Costa Smerelda and to places like Porto Cervo and the surrounding area. We had a wonderful time here and recommend it to anyone.
