A great land for tourism! Wonderful waters (maybe a little cold, but depends on each one's habits), wonderful hills and countryside, gorgeous food (but this is common to most of Italy).
Sassari is just the provincial capital, but not the most important center under the tourist point of view, if you're here on holidays you will be staying in the Costa Smeralda (North-eastern corner of the island: Santa Teresa di Gallura, Palau, Arzachena, Olbia...) or in the Alghero area (Stintino, Asinara, Capo Caccia).
Take care of Costa Smeralda high prices! These are due to the enormous quantity of VIP's (or pretending to be) going there for holiday, but you can easily avoid their places and stay with families or in less pretentious hotels, there are many.
