At 1st sight Acireale seemed to me a small provincial town full of obsolete and decay buildings, but the more I wondered along its narrow and busy streets, the more this town revealed to me... and those were pieces of real beauty....
If you fancy SPAs, it is right place for you.... the town has ancient Roman thermas as well as newly built ones..
MY ADVICE: if you happened to be in Acireale, apart from the main attractions, go to the wonderful terrace (actually it's not a terrace but a curvy road with low stone barriers going down) overlooking the sea front.... in order to find it you should go along the street behind Duomo and Basilica towards sea direction, then cross SS114 and in between local villas come down to the terrace, the view from over there will make you feel drunk from how beautiful and fast space can be....
