Jolly Hotel Della Valle: In the "Upper" Town    Check Rates

    • This was a simple hotel, 3*, with small clean rooms, full bathroom (shower), elevator , a breakfast area near the entrance area and parking in a protected area nearby(always available? at no charge?). For tourist purposes it is 50m off the Viale della Vittoria and 200m from the Piazza Aldo Moro which makes it convenient to the center of town (and to bus transport down to the ruins).

    Location especially not too far off for a view down to the ruins. There are plenty of locals around in the square (no name) facing the Viale della Vittoria.Easy walk into the center of town.

  • Directions: One street above the Viale della Vittoria near its upper end. There is a street leading back to Piave in the middle of a "square"-like area and another just beyond the end of the square toward center town. You come in from V.Vittoria!, not Via Crispi.

    We booked rooms here as my father has stayed here during all his Agrigento visits and enjoyed talking to the owner in what little Italian he could. However, it turned out that they had sold the place and the new staff was a mixed bunch of friendly and aloof. The new owners whom I had booked with, not my dad, had said they had renovated the place. However, when we came there, the room was decent enough but without as much as a painting on the wall or anything vaguely cheerful and I would be hard pushed to call it renovated. Especially considering that they had put the prices up unreasonably much since my dad stayed there last.

    Having said all this negative stuff, there is not much of a choice quality wise if you want to stay in the city centre rather than down in the temple valley (Belvedere etc. seem to be much the same style) and the location is really hard to beat. In less than a minute you are in via Atenae with all its shops and with Italian breakfast at the "Sunflower" cafe and it takes five minutes to the Central station...

    • Convenient location, out of city centre but close enough to reach it walking.

    Fascinating panorama over the valley and the sea. Vey nice and well taken care of garden with pool.

    • Very convenient situation near both main street and station where the local buse start.

    Obtained a ground floor en-suite room on the last night of festival! Very friendly. Coffee and croissants on sale in the morning. Quite good bargain at tratoria next door but see section on restaurants for what I thought even better.

    Camping Valle dei Templi: A decent family campground

    • We decided to camp for a night but were not overly prepared for it and should have had the sense to take something soft to lie on as the ground was extremely hard - needless to say we abandoned our intent to camp for the rest of the holiday and gave the tent to a grandchild of the owner where we stayed on the last night of our holidays. There are plenty of facilities and it's not far from the beach, maybe a kilometre or so in distance.

    • Unique farmhouse with those terrific views on the huge valley around. Perfect mix of class, style, contact with nature, family, etc.
    Rooms are really elegant, class and still rustic. Furniture is impressive. The country is really at top level with animals (donkeys, horses) and a private lake.
    Really reccomended.

    • I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. It's not convenient for Aggrigento town centre. The room was ok and when they have finished refurbishing the swimming pools and grounds it will probably all look quite nice.
    Service is slack but friendly.

    However it is a fairly charmless place with no atmosphere. The food is no better than ok and in the morning they only provide instant coffee made with powdered milk! Yuk! For what you get it is over-priced, only use if you can't find anything better or with more charm.

    When refurbishment is completed it will probably have a nice pool and grounds. Good views on one side.

    • I've been looking up this hotel because I was there 8 years ago and am now looking to take my husband back to a beautiful place. I was very disapointed to find a poor review on the place, especially on its ambiance from the last reviewer. My memories are of a luxurious villa that allows you to step back in time. The rooms are a bit small, but overlook the sea or the charming courtyard and the size is to be expected for much of europe. If you are there to stay in your room, you're crazy. The grounds alone could keep you occupied for days. Inside there are beautiful courtyards with fountains that are often empty if you are looking to steal some alone time with your honey. The piano bar area was fabulous and the bartender made me my first cocktail and we called it the pink panther. Outside, on the beautiful terrace we ate dinner with sunset views for miles and beautiful views of the sea. Down some steps and to the left was a quaint little duck pond and you continued down to a beautiful pool that faded from the deck to the water like the beach does. It was a great size and there were friendly staff on hand to teach us dances so we had a blast. What many people did not get to experience was going down to the third level. You could easily walk to the beach, get lost in the secret gardens, and we even came across an abandoned or closed pizza bar typical of Italy. I can't wait to take the love of my life there.

    The pool is amazing, the bartender is amazing, the grounds are amazing!

    Good rooms, good price and great people. I will stay here again if not just to see the artwork I gave the lovely Sonia to thank her for her hospitality. The breakfast is great and the coffee good. If you stay say hi from me.

    Note; We found this place at the recommendation of a fellow traveler while on the road in Sicily.
