Tombs near Temple of Concord

The road which leads to the Temple of Concord is flanked by these excavated ruins. They appear to be tombs hewn from the rock. Some of the openings are accessible and permit you to see interior niches.

Adiacente alla museo sorge l'Ekklesiasterion, risalente al IV secolo a.C.. Presso di esso i cittadini erano soliti riunirsi per discutere i problemi della città e dello Stato. Dall'orchestra (area circolare piatta) che si trova al centro, l'oratore di turno parlava all'uditorio. L'Ekklesiasterion poteva accogliere oltre 2000 cittadini che prendevano posto tra le 20 file di gradoni orizzontali, divise verticalmente in cinque cunei. Era luogo di sacrifici a Zeus che venivano offerti prima dell'apertura di ogni sessione.

"day Trip from Palermo"

The 2 hour train journey from Palermo to Agrigento was well worth it. The Valle dei Templi ("Valley of the Temples") is a short bus ride away from Agrigento train station. The entrance fee to the Unesco World Heritage site was 8 euros.

"A long walk around"

The site straddles two side of the road and initially deceiving as one it appears quite small. The second section is close to a mile long. The whole site takes approximately 3 hours to see properly and even in late October the sun was very hot and the trek was quite gruelling.
