parking in Agrigento city

by Savl1

I'll visit Agrigento by car. I read there is a parking near the entrance to valley of the temples. But on the way back I want to stop and see city Duomo. Where it is better to park a car in maximum proximity to Duomo ? Need Your recommendation.

There is plenty of parking (pay) at the Valley of the Temples. We didn't go into Agrigento so I have no idea about parking there but it is quite a way from the Valley and you would need some transport if you wanted to leave your car at the Valley. There might be bus service and there is probably parking near the Duomo. Hopefully someone with knowledge of the city will log on soon and answer you. From the Valley of the Temples we were struck at the ugliness of Agrigento; not a good view from the beautiful Greek Temples . . .

While you wait for an answer, you might type Agrigento Duomo into the VT Search Window. Often when people write Tips, they mention parking or transportation.

Good luck. I'm sure the Duomo is beautiful; it's just the skyscrapers surrounding it are awful . . . or perhaps it's just the juxtaposition of Greek Temples and skyscrapers. If you get a chance, visit Selinunte too. We loved the Greek ruins backed by the beautiful ocean views. It's stunning.

Travel Tips for Agrigento

Cool down by the sea

by Sjalen

When you feel that southern Sicily is too hot for you, almost as close to Africa as it is to mainland Italy, then catch bus 2 (same as the temple valley so you can combine them) to San Leone and either visit the "lido" or just one of the bars along the seafront. There is also a huge playground for children down there.

Talking about San Leone, I also have to mention the by Sicilian standards very large coastguard office with helicopter pad here. The southern coast is of course a popular landing place for immigrants from Africa. Again, you see that this is the island where Europe ends...

Try to have a night in...

Try to have a night in Selinunte/Marinella but at least plan to get some hours there as there is so much to see. It is a superb area of Greek remains. On a lovely day in february I only saw about 20 people in the whole area and the wild flowers were wonderful to see and smell.
I htink it was the extent and sense of freedom which gave it much of its appeal. the acropolis area has several ruined temples and sites of streets and houses and the other area includes one brilliantly restored temple and if its naff to enjoy anything restored then I enjoyed being naff. So what?

landscape hills

It's a typical lanscape for Sicily, Agrigento is no exception too. Dominating brownish, yellow colours as the harvest in June is already taken. In march these hills had completely different shades.
Another thing, that grass burning is still very common here, so once in a while you'll see fires wherever you go.
