Erasmus student

by ingnor

Hello everyone!

As I saw in this forum, you are very kind and help for others, I hope you'll manage to do this and for me.

I have the same problem as other Erasmus students, that wrote here some time before. So I am coming on september, 2007 and staying in Catania till the end of January. And I need a room for this stay. So could anyone help me with this and suggest something?

Regards,
Inga

I think you will enjoy Catania. It is a fun city with a lot to offer, especially to students.

Here are some sights that might be helpful:

Saint Francesco Borgia
This baroque church as the following one are both on Via Crociferi where you can find at the same time staircases, either simple or with landings, balustrades, staircases topped by marble statues, arched pilasters, classical columns, domes, decorations, loggias, Simetan marble fountains on Parisian marble pilasters. There are bronze reliefs, cornices, stairs with railings, capitals and architraves, which all together make this street the backbone of Catanese baroque!

Castello Ursino - was built in 1239 - 1250 from the will of Federico II. The building was destroyed by eruption in 1669 and by earthquake in 1693 and 1818. This port was reconstructed and then become the prison. Today we can find inside the beautiful exposition which covers regional decorations and famos statues (several made also from lava-stone).

"A lively place under the volcano..."

Catania is one hell of a lively city. Very Italian, so we liked it right away! There's also some interesting sights and you can keep yourself busy strolling around all day and blending with the Sicilian pace of life. Which means not to forget to have your siesta on a bench in the park!
