Milazzo

"Nicer than what you can see at first"
We stayed in Milazzo 2 nights, and enjoyed our stay there. When you drive to Milazzo from Messina, first you see the fumes of many plants and it seems like an industrial town, with no great interest.
We changed our minds after walking around the lungomare, adventuring in small streets and enjoying a drink in a café, full of Sicilians. It felt like a more "authentic" town, fewer tourists, etc.
Our hotel was right across from the ferries, so it was very convenient to buy tickets and take the ferry to the Aeolian Islands...

"Citadella e il castello"
This is a panoramic view over the city with a castle on top of a hill. It's a main town fortification and it was initiated by the Arabs, who started to build it on the basis of ancient Greek acropolis, and which had been modified and extended over the centuries.

Milazzo is a small town on the Northern coast of Sicily close to the continental Italy. It's not marked as a tourist MUST in any guide but since we were driving thru it and there was no chance to escape, we decided to make a short stop....
Two things that excited us most were
- the refinery - we approached the town from its site and the proximity of the latter to the town just amazed us....
- Capo di Milazzo - one of the beautiful places in Sicily, the place covered with a lot of legends and just simply full of natural beauty... It points like a finger into the sea and serves a good point to start ones trip to Isole islands...
