Convento dei Cappucini - bus...
by davidcross
Convento dei Cappucini - bus 327 from Piazza d'Independenza and ask driver. Skeletons galore - clad and arranged by sex and occupation. One incredibly well preserved by special process.
YOU MUST DECIDE if you have children whether they will be thrilled or very frightened. If in doubt give it a miss.
Absolutely breathtaking--Monreale
by Lcannar
If you like cathedrals and oppulence, then you have to take the trip to Monreale. There is a line to get in. But what there was to see absolutely left me speechless. It is graceful in it's lines, but magnificent in size. Every inch is covered with richly colored and gilt mosaic. Like the Cistine chapel, the longer you look at the mosaics, the more you see. It was the complete story of the Bible told in beautiful pictures. Definately, look for the little boxes to put coins in. They illuminate the walls and ceilings. The outside cloister with all the columns was also beautiful.
Teatro Massimo
by bambino36
The theater is one of the largest opera theater stages in Europe and is one of Palermo’s most important buildings
The theater was designed by Gian Battista Basile and was built by his son Ernesto, who supervised the works starting in 1891. This change of hands resulted in a classical style exterior and Liberty style inside. In 1997, the theater was renovated and reopened to the public, after twenty years of neglect.
Palermo: The Big Secret
by ucbwalker
Why does this city have such a bad rep? Granted, some areas are depressed. And many of the people can be quite brusque with foreigners. And I was nearly mugged in broad daylight. But man, there is such a wealth of things to see and do in Palermo. But, as LeVar Burton would say, don't take my word for it! Have a look at the pics. The above picture is a mosaic from a small Norman church called La Martorana near the Fontana Pretoria.
