Palermo: what to visit
There are a lot of monuments, museums, churches and buildings to visit in Palermo.
Let's start with: Piazza della Rivoluzione; San Francesco d'Assisi Church; Palazzo Mirto; il Museo Internazionale delle Marionette; Santa Maria alla Catena Church; l?Oratorio del Rosario di Santa Cita; Sant?Agostino Church
Let's go on visiting: Palazzo Sclafani, the Cathedral; Chiesa del Santissimo Salvatore; i "Quattro Canti"; Piazza Pretoria, in its centre we find a wonderful fountain; Palazzo Pretorio; Martorana Church.
Don't miss: Palazzo dei Normanni; Porta Nuova; chiesa di San Giovanni degli Eremiti.
Visit also: Museo Archeologico Regionale; Teatro Politeama.
Searching for wine and old stones

Alcamo is a nice small city 60 km west of Palermo, not far from the coast and surrounded by vineyards. The wine produced is the Alcamo DOC, traditionally white and dry. The nose discovers flowers and fruit (in particular apple, pear, lemon and cedar). In some versions it has a very ripe nose with lots of maracuja, peach and pineapple. Acid and with a nice body, usually medium or long.
In Alcamo visit the Castle and the numerous baroque churches.
Fountain of Shame

This is one of the landmarks which thankfully has had a long overdue overhaul. It was originally intended for Firenze in the middle 1500s, and at it unveiling the nude figures saw it dubbed '"The Fountain of Shame" . A great square where a few people congregate some evenings, unlike the Piazza Garibaldi with it's crowds
The Greek theatre

The GREEK AMPHITHEATRE was built in the third century BC, and expanded by the Romans, who enlarged the stage and added a partial roof (now destroyed). Reserved seating existed even in Greek times; a seat bears the inscription of the name of Philistide, wife of Hieron II of Syracuse. The view of Mount Etna and the sea beyond the theatre is breathtaking !
