Worth The Search

We stayed at the Harmony for three nights in November. We had an evening flight and took the train into Palermo (5 euros each), reaching Palermo station at about 9.00pm, by which time it was very dark (also pouring with rain). The walk to the hotel took about half an hour (which included getting lost): the Harmony is NOT easy to find, being tucked away in a little back street, but if you can find your way to the Antica Focacceria San Francesco, you’ll know you’re close! And once found, it was very well placed, right in the middle of the historic quarter & within walking distance of most sights.

Our room, up the imposing marble staircase, was spacious & spotlessly clean, as was the bathroom - unfortunately, the toilet seat was broken, but the towels were plentiful and fluffy. All the usual amenities in the room, plus a safe which you could programme yourself, & free wi-fi internet access.

Yes, it was a bit noisy – we were on the first floor and the road was right outside our balcony (no double glazing), plus the building next door was undergoing renovation. Also, the Harmony hallway was being repainted, so there were workmen around. Still, the noise levels weren’t unbearable, and the location of the hotel made up for any shortcomings on that front.

Staff were helpful but didn’t speak much English (if any!).

Breakfast was served from 8am to 10am, and was fairly basic – coffee, juice & a pastry, plus those rusk-like biscuits & jam. Check out time on our last day was 10am, which was a bit earlier than usual, but they were happy to store our cases until we were ready to leave.

On the whole, a pleasant little budget hotel, good value for the price (we paid 68 euros a night) and well situated.
