Surprising Palermo
by TripAdvisor Member mcbabci
We stayed here for 2 nights in November. The hotel and the city was a pleasant surprise. The location was great on the Via Roma, not too far from the train station. It was near all the sight and close to the Hop-On-Hop-Off bus. The room we had was on the 1st floor(2nd European) and the reception and breakfast was on the 5th and 6th. The elevator was tiny but it served the purpose to get us wherever we wanted to go in the building. Good security and a friendly staff made for a pleasant stay. The room that we had was quite big and so was the bathroom.
Do not be afraid to go to Palermo. We had read some horrible stories about the city, but we felt safe and enjoyed our 2 day stay. I highly recommend this hotel.
Excellent Ambasciatori
by TripAdvisor Member Lucage66
The hotel Ambasciatori is perfectly located in Palermo - in the center of Palermo on a shopping street. . Rooms are very good and well decorated, very big elegant bathroom.
The hotel has got a wonderful roof terrace, dominating the whole of Palermo.
I definetely reccomend the hotel Ambasciatori. It's also very quiet which is nice after a day out in noisy (but wonderful) Palermo.
Not far from the hotel (5 minutes walking) we also found a nice restaurant "Primi Piatti" Vicolo San Giuseppe, 2b
Palermo. Friendly service and good food and honest pricing.
Best Three Star Hotel Ever

This is a great hotel that should not be overlooked on a trip to Palermo. The property is super-clean with big nice bathrooms. Our room had a fridge and a safe as well. The staff to a person was great with lots of info about sites around town and suggestions. They went out of our way to help us figure out a day trip to Agrigento by train. The rooftop breakfast area offers great views of the city. If I ever make it back to Palermo I will stay here again.
Great hotel, poor receptionist!
by TripAdvisor Member JoyeuseTraveller
The entrance to the building, was slightly off putting, but once we negotiated the steps to the lift and arrived upstairs, it was well decorated and the rooms were very comfortable, with clean and large bathrooms. Breakfast was excellent and the terrace had wonderful views over Palermo. However one of the receptionists, a youngish blond girl, was very rude and unhelpful! She was impatient, aggressive and reminded us of Basil Fawlty at his worst, spending hours in front of the computer typing at the same time that she spoke very loudly on the phone, rattling like a machine gun, and if we asked any questions she either ignored us or would respond aggressively. The owner though was pleasant enough and quite helpful, which almost made up for this unpleasant experience. The location is reasonable, close to the bus terminal, so handy for those not driving into Palermo, though not such a nice area!
lovely experience
by TripAdvisor Member PowerandPasta
My husband and I stayed three nights May 2007 and loved it. It is within walking distance of markets, opera, theatres, rail station and bus.
The rooms are clean, beds comfortable and the view over Via Roma was lovely. The breakfast was quite sufficient and served on the rooftop terrace; it's an oasis of calm and the staff were very friendly.
Nice extras were the free internet (first 5 minutes free, but no one every kept track) and helpful front desk staff. We did not have a rude staff member at all. Most spoke a little English, and some a lot.
We would stay here again without hestitation and would recommend it highly.
A place with a lot of charm
by TripAdvisor Member W*Travel
Stayed at the Ambasciatori for a couple of days on a short visit to Palermo.
It is an excellent hotel, located in an turn of the century apartment building, spread on a number of floors, having converted the apartments to hotel rooms. The building still has apartments with residents, which adds a special touch to the Ambasciatori.
The apartments (on the 5th, 3rd, and 1st floor) have been very successfully converted. The ones on the 5th floor are the nicest (the ones mostly featured on the hotel website). Mine was on the 3rd floor. It was HUGE, with the original coloured tiling on the floor. It was overlooking the main street, which though noisy with traffic, was interesting to watch. Newly fitted windows were very effective in cutting the noise down, and with an AC, it was very confortable to sleep at night. The bathroom of the room was across the Hall (private bathroom, i.e. no one else shared it), which was a bit inconvenient. However, it did feel as if staying in someone's house.
Two small points of dissapointment: the bathroom, though huge, had a tiny shower cubicle, and although everything else was spotlessly clean, the shower had a bit of disgusting mould, and remains of uncleaned solidified soap. Considering the size of the cublicle, I am sure it must be very difficult for the cleaning ladies to get into it, close it in order to clean it properly.
The second was the furniture in the room: new, but cheap and quite nasty (drawers broke apart every time I tried opening them). Both these points are a bit of a shame because, otherwise, the place has charm.
On a more positive note, the view from the roof terrace is absolutely AMAZING (tip: make sure you go up to the furthest part on the roof..... one is overwhelmed with the beauty of the city skyline, and would not realize that if you go up the small metal stairs, then up again, you are above the breakfast room.... with 380 deg. view of the city, the port , and the sea!!)
Breakfast was also excellent. Much better than in a lot of other more expensive places I stayed at (particulalry DELICIOUS bakeries filled with jam or chocolate).
So all in all, a great place to stay, with an excellent location, helpful staff, a lot of character.... with very nice rooms on the 5th floor, but ones that are less nice on the 3rd floor.
I recommend it...

Stayed for 2 nights and have great memories of this hotel..
Very friendly staff, great location on the main shopping street (although a little noisy if that bothers you)...its worth it though for the breakfast experience. The roof terrace overlooks the whole city and the view is breathtaking. Breakfast was pretty impressive too.
The entrance looks a bit off putting with the old brown door and old fashioned intercom..however, it looked like it was being renovated during our visit.
Wonderful Hotel
by TripAdvisor Member joeumo
We loved this hotel. The breakfast on the roof was wonderful. The pastries were amazing. The staff was courteous and helpful. We would definitely stay there again. Even though it is on a busy street our room was quiet. My family will always have fond memories of our stay there.
The best part of our trip to Palermo
by TripAdvisor Member novice_anna
Palermo was far too hot for our taste, so it was such a relief to know that we had a clean, comfortable room waiting for us with GREAT air conditioning.
Francesca at the front desk was incredibly helpful and kind to us- even helping us work with the airline to find our lost luggage.
The breakfast was fantastic- great coffee and delicious sweets with a rooftop view that knocked me out.
While the bathroom was a good size, the shower was VERY tiny. I am of ample size and i needed to shimmy into the cabin- the way out was not as bad as i was wet and more slippery.
Overall, this was a good expereince and we feel can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel
great choice

Good hotel in the Palermo area?
by spdivr
Hello,
My family is visiting Sicily in April. We are spending one night in the area of Palermo, and while we are going to explore Palermo, we are not tied to having a hotel right in the city. What we would really like is something reasonably priced, safe for young children and memorable.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

We stayed a few nights last year at the ambasciatori hotel in the city:
http://www.ambasciatorihotelpalermo.net/
It was a decent price, an easy walk from the train station, and also easy walk to the sights in the old town, quatro canti, vucciria & ballaro markets...
Great views over the city from the roof top terrace- where you can take breakfast.

That is a great recommendation, thank you! I'm really looking forward to that roof terrace for breakfast!
Funny, Hotels.com said they are booked, but when I emailed directly to the hotel, no problem!

We stayed at San Paolo and enjoyed it. The view from the roof top pool was well worth staying there.
