Helpfulness
As Central as you can get in Palermo
We stayed 3 nights (2 rooms) in this simple hotel. It has 26 doubles (+12 singles) and is situated on the top floor(s) of an old 4 story bldg. The lobby is upstairs (reached by elevator) and assistance is obtained at the desk . This presents difficulty if you are arriving by car of your own. (See our introduction for story). Aside from this, the people are friendly, helpfull and polite. The rooms have tall ceilings , full bathroom (bath or shower) and simple breakfast. There is parking (arranged somehow at the desk; we parked only for unloading and returned our car immediately).
Unique Quality: The Moderno is quiet with tall large rooms and air conditioning. ITs great advantage is its location (2 blocks N of Corso V. Emanuele). With 1 exception we did all our sightseeing and eating on foot.

Hotel Moderno, Palermo
Don't be put off by the tacky signs and the rather cold-looking ground-floor entrance (shared with private apartments), the Moderno is actually OK.
All rooms are on at least the 3rd floor, and some don't face the street, so they are pretty quiet - a blessing in Palermo!
Unique Quality: It's easy to find (just look for the huge neon sign on Via Roma), pretty central, there's some parking space in the piazza at the back, and a great pizzeria round the corner.
