A room with a view
I am so glad that I wasn't put off by some of the reviews on venere.com for the Hotel President (not that I didn't think about it) it was only that I couldn't find another hotel in my price range that had any better reviews, so I really didn't have much choice but to stick with my original choice. As it turned out, it was a great hotel. Nicely refurbished with a rooftop restaurant and a lovely bar which is open to midnight. Great breakfast is included in the price. Service was excellent. Staff speak good English.
Unique Quality: My room overlooked the port and so I was able to watch the comings and goings of every sort of boat, ship and ferry imaginable. The location is fantastic. Close to the city centre (just a few blocks) and there is so much to see and do without ever having to depend on transport of any kind.

Hello all,
I am heading to Palermo this weekend and seeking accommodation. Please if you know of any hostel/hotel/ pension I could stay in, I'd much appreciate it. Prefer something by or on the sea :)

If I were you I would search hostelworld.com. When I was in Europe I had the most success with that sight. It's got much better options than Hosteling International does. Personally I like hostels better than hotels because besides being much cheaper, you get to meet all sorts of people from around the world and feel like you are part of a travel community.

They have rooms available this weekend from as little as 46Euro per night for a single. I have stayed there and was very impressed even though I paid a lot more than 46 Euro. I still thought it was a bargain and it overlooks the port. You can actually sit in your room and watch the ships all coming and going across the road. See my tip on my Sicily page.
