Città del mare is not too bad, i don't know the price, but i can tell you that it's a pity to come to Sicily to stay in a resort...if i can give you an advice, rent a car and a B&B to discover our lovely island on your own...it's cheaper and more enjoyable.

Travel Tips for Palermo

Il Gattopardo

by CliffClaven

Back in the 1950s the Piazzale Ungheria in the centre of Palermo was the place to be seen as you sipped an espresso. It was here, at one of the cafés under the arcade, that Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa wrote 'Il Gattopardo' (The Leopard), a rich tale of the decline of Sicilian aristocracy set against the background of Italian unification. The novel, published a year after Lampedusa's death, has come to be considered the greatest Italian novel of the 20th century. Visconti directed the film version starring Burt Lancaster, Alain Delon and Claudia Cardinale.

Cucina Siciliana

by Paisleypaul about Hostaria da Ciccio

This small hostaria was excellent. Rough Guide circa 2000 suggested food was kind of ordinary, but that this was reflected in budget prices. I would say the information was out of date on both counts - food was lovely, and price wise it was neither cheaper nor more expensive than average We had zuppa di pesce (fish soup) pasta / sea bass, tiramisu and a Sicilian speciality desert which I did not get the name of . With water and a bottle of our favourite Sicilian white, Regealeali, Eu48.50 was well reasonable.

You should take a good look of...

by Bgem

You should take a good look of the city and enjoy a walk. Don't worry about taking a car, Palermo is a rush city and you can get stuck in a traffic jam for miles.
There are a network of alleys and lanes that still exists today dating back from as far as 831 D.C. The city is a historical background that reflects lively and colourful local traditions. These are seen not in the local processions on holidays, but also in triumphal decorated carts and local festivals.

Beautiful Palermo

by gubbi1

From Cefalu, where I stayed with some friends of mine for a two-weeks-holidays, I went to Palermo for a daytrip. We took the train, which brings you into the center of the town. As long as you do not plan to visit Montreale you can make everything by feet. We planned to take a car for going to Erice, which is located in the very west of Sicilia, so we stopped by Montreale by car on another day.
Actually I have to confess that I was a little nervous before leaving to Sicilia because of prejudices that there is a lot of crime and I just have bought my camera before. But there I didn't have the feeling of any problem at all. Actually I didn't even really hide it. So I think that I was wrong. One person of the travelgroup, who went to Palermo another day, got her wallet stolen in a bus to Montreale, but I think it is like everywhere else. So in case you have the same thoughts just take care, but don't mess the pleasure you will have when being downtown Palermo.
