Siracusa Tip
by anne_h
At one point we were on a road out of town--I think it was Taormina--and coming toward us was a huge, I mean hug, pig! It was just trotting along, oblivious of the traffic in its sublime pigginess. The contradictions of Sicily in a nutshell.
Fonte Aretusa
by Lalique
The Fountain of Arethusa played a significant part in persuading the first group of colonists to settle her in Antiquity.
Today the fountain sustains palm trees and clumps of papyrus, ducks and drakes. The fonts of the houses painted in pastel shades make for a peaceful and relaxed Mediterranean landscape.
Looming on the horizon on the very tip of the island sits the solid profile of the Castello Maniace (it is closed for public), a sandstone fortress built by Frederick II of Swabia.
