Rome FCO to Catania Best Airline to fly

Rome FCO to Catania should I fly Meridiana or Air One
Posted: Mon June 8, 2009 11:34 PM UTC
I need to fly from FCO to Catania and have been looking at prices and schedules. I am flying into FCO on August 1 at 8:05 and saw that there was a around 12:50 to CTA on Meridiana, but after a day and a half I have not been succesful buying a ticket on their website. I noticed that the real carrier is Wind jet maybe I have to go to their website. As I looked about comments about the service on Wind jet I am now thinking I should try Air one. I will be returning on Aug 6 and thought that I would get a round trip to FCO CTA then from FCO I go to La Spezia. Should I go to Roma Termini and get a train from there to La Spezia? Thank you for any comments on the airlines, I do want to buy this ticket today.

I don't think you need to be over-concerned about the individual airline.

You just need to find the timeings and fares which suit your dates.

If you are having difficulty with the Meridiana site (is this because of your card type, or because of site difficutlties?) then you could try booking directly with Windjet. http://w2.volawindjet.it/default.aspx?lang=en

Air One is also perfectly acceptable: http://flyairone.it/en/

Baggage varies. Windjet allow 3 pieces with an overall combined weight of 20kg, at 7 euro per item. Airone allows 20kg hold baggage on some aircraft, less on others (depends on type).

Allow plenty of time between flights. Check-in usually closes around 40 minutes before departure, and queues can be long (and so can the queues for security).

You need to change trains at Rome Ostiense station rather than Termini, so take the slower (cheaper) stopping train from Fiumicno, not the direct Leonardo Express. You should be able to buy a through ticket at Fiumicino station (which is inside the airport), but you can try to book online in advance if you wish (allow plenty of time for potential flight/baggage reclaim etc delays).

You will find train times, details and fares in English here:

Travel Tips for Taormina

Al Giardino Restaurant

The restaurant in Taormina is located opposite the Giardino Trevelyan and naturally got its name from that! The owner Sebastiano Puglia turned out to have worked as an interpretor in several countries but was born in Taormina.
Needless to say, this restaurant became the favorite -and easy to come - place where Sebastiano served fresh fish or pasta of the day and other sisilian specialities explaining with enthousiasm how they were prepared, asked kitchen boys to make special deserts for me and offered at the end of the dinner some sisilian grappa on the house (he insisted that it was sisilian not italian!).
It looks a sophisticated restaurant but prises were reasonable not to mention the good extra service. The food was delicious, all antipastos home-made - even some vegetables were grown by Sebastiano in his garden and mixed with olive oil (yes, sisilian olive oil) and secret spice mixture to go in pasta sauces! Just to die for...almost!

Teatro Greco

by mabu

A musst for every visitor in Taormina is a visit to the Teatro Greco.

This amphitheatre was built during the period the greeks were there. It is still used sometimes for concerts and theatre productions.

As we've already seen it during previous travels to taormina i've only got a picture from the outside as you have to pay to go in.
