Hi,
I plan on being in Taormina from June 7-10, just realized that a film festival will be starting on June 11 set in the greek theater. Wanted to know if the Theater would still be open for the public especially on the days of June 8/9 or would they close it in preperation for the film festival?

Enjoy your time in Taormina
We visited Taormina last year not realising the film festival was on. The theatre is open albiet full of scaffolding and seats. It is still worth the visit. The film fest only takes over in the evening when they show a premiere on a big screen. Entry is free and you sit in the open air theatre with a bottle of local wine, local fresh food with the bay of Naxos in the background watching a world premiere on a big screen and you may catch sight of some stars. Last year we met Charles Dance and Judi Dench. Michael Douglas was also there.
We enjoyed it so much we are going again. This is totally against our principles of vsiting the same place twice!
CASTELMOLA
This is an ancient fortress built to protect Taormina. From here there is a marvellous wide panorama view (my intro pic!).
It is located at 531 meters above sea level and getting there can be a bit frightening!
Look at those buildings and balconies hanging above...NOTHING! Would you live there?
You will find a lot of pleasures for your eyes in Taormina, espeacially in landscapes. It seems like a fantasy, a dream. Taormina is 200 meters above the sea level, 20 km from Messina. One of the best ways to see all the bay from above is to go to 9th April square which you will find in the center, the opening view is amazing, especially at night.
I have just spend one week in Taormina (last days in August and first days in September).
Must say that it was very pleasent while the Italians where all on holiday...... many of the northern Italians are taking there holidays in the south......
