Considering the Grand Hotel Timeo in Taormina?
A VT member wrote the following comment about visiting Taormina:

Taormina is just 70 km south of Messina and may the same way North of Catania. While catania is a wonderful place to visit itself, one cannot say exactly the same for Messina, as it was completely destroyed by an earthquake and never rebuilt with the same fashion. But, Messina is a curious place because of the strait, dividing Sicily from mainland Italy.
