More about Hotel Villa Diodoro

Perfect Location in Taormina

by deecat about Hotel Villa Diodoro, Taormina Sicily

The Hotel Villa Diodoro's location is perfect--overlooking the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna. Our room had views of both. We had two balconies that were huge where we sunbathed.

The hotel is only a few walking minutes from the historic center of Taormina, which was wonderful.

Besides lovely balconies, we had satellite colour TV, air conditioning, electronic safe, direct dial telephone, automatic morning call, hair dryer, towel-warming bars in the newly renovated bathrooms, and a mini-bar.

When I walked into the room, I said, "To Die For!" There is a huge Swimming pool, fine restaurant, intimate bar, parking area and a private beach at the bottom of the cliff.

It's truly amazing.

The Best of Everything...

by deecat about Hotel Villa Diodoro, Taormina Sicily

In 1997, during our 2-months plus stay in Gaeta, Italy, we took many side trips. One 4-day trip was the the Island of Sicily.
Here, we stayed at the newly rennovated Hotel Villa Diodoro. It was such a grand choice for us.

The hotel is situated in a great location overlooking Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea. From our room, you could see both. It's just a few minutes from the historic center of Taormina.

We had two balconies that were huge, and this is where we sunbathed. In addition, Allan felt there were some interesting "sights" of other sunbathers! [grin]

All the rooms and junior suites have balconies, electronic safe, air conditioning, satellite color TV, hair dryer, mini-bar, and direct dialing telephones. The hotel has a beautiful outdoor swimming pool, a fine restaurant, a great bar with very friendly bar tenders, free parking areas [pretty tight parking], and a PRIVATE BEACH! There's a Golf club within 25 Km.

Our room was a corner room with stunning views; it had large king bed, classic furniture, a spectacular bathroom [I remember being in awe of the tower warmer rack!].

Breakfast buffet was included in the price of the hotel, and it was quite a feast. The hotel is near a small park, which we enjoyed walking in.

If you go to Taromina, give the Hotel Villa Diodoro a try. You won't regret it. You'll probably say what I did when I walked into our room, "To Die For!"

Best Breakfast in Sicily

by deecat about Breakfast Room at Hotel Villa Diodoro

At the Hotel Villa Diodoro in Taormina Sicily, we ate the best breakfast in the best of all settings

The room has gigantic windows all around, and we could see the Ionian Sea and parts of Mount Etna!

And the best thing about it all, it was free with the remarkable dining room. My favorites at this breakfast was the large amounts of fresh fruits, made to order omlets, freshly made pastries, Cappuccino,
and actually CRISPY slices of Bacon (a rarity in Europe).

We had experience many good breakfasts in Italy, but we thought the combination of the spectacular view, the excellent cuisine, and the attentive service combined to make this breakfast in Taromina the very best.

Tantalizing Taormina

by deecat

Taormina is a lovely resort town with the perfect location high above the Ionian Sea and overlooking Mount Etna. Our Hotel Villa Diodoro had a view of both those sites.

Mount Etna is one of the world's largest ACTIVE volcanoes. Thank goodness it did not come awake while we were there!

The historical center of Taormina is quite large and oh, so pretty. It is jam-packed with good shops, fine restaurants, and sandy beaches far below.

Because Sicily is between North Africa, Europe, and the eastern Mediterranean, it has a most varied cuisine.

Taormina is, indeed, a delight to visit.

The Delightful Hotel Diodoro

by TripAdvisor Member Jbruce

We have just returned from a week in Taormina staying at the Hotel Diodoro and absolutely loved every minute. This hotel sits approx 500ft above the coast and offers quite breathtaking views of both the bay below and of Mount Etna. The hotel is typically Italian with marble floors covered with rugs, comfortable chairs and couches and good lighting. The overall effect produced is one of taste and restraint. The bedroom was light and airy with a large balcony and A/C. My only complaint here was that the shower was very small and slighty difficult to use. Next time I would request a bath/shower arrangement. The food, on halfboard basis, was good Sicilian fare served in the beautiful dining room again with outstanding views from the window tables. The staff, all smartly uniformed, were pleasant helpful and efficient. The hotel is located only 5 mins walk from both the magical attractions of Taormina and the cable car ride down to the beachside at Taormina Mare. I've saved the best for last. This hotel must have one of the best pools in Italy. the views from it are simply amazing. There are free loungers with cushions and umbrellas and free towel service. If you visit this wonderful town the Hotel Diodoro is a must!

An excellent hotel- great base for Taormina

by TripAdvisor Member JLS24

We have just returned from the Villa Diodoro. To get the criticism out of the way - the rooms are a little on the small side with not a lot of spare space.

That aside however we thought the hotel was fabulous. The rooms have large beds, are clean, and are recently refurbished (although they are classic in style so dont stay here is you are a minimalist queen!).

The pool area is awesome - fabulous views, good bar area, great beds, plenty of umbrellas, and we never had to fight for beds (suspect it would be busier in August!)

Locationally - only a very short stroll through the gardens from the centre, and parking at the hotel is free. Alberto - one of the concierge was brilliant - truly helpful and gave us some excellent restaurant recommendations. We wouldn't hesitate to come back to the the Villa Diodoro.

An excellent base to stay in Taormina

by A TripAdvisor Member

We have just returned from the Hotel Villa Diodoro. It is in an excellent position, the rooms are tastefully decorated, although I would agree with previous comments regarding the small bathrooms, the shower is exceptionally small and may not be suitable for some guests.

We found the hotel staff friendly, polite and professional. Breakfast was a good continental selection and more besides (the Sicilians have a rather sweet tooth so don't be surprised to find profiteroles as part of the buffet)!

The evening meals were fine although if we stayed again we would probably stay on a B&B basis as there are so many wonderful restaurants to try in the town itself.

The pool area is stunning, the largest swimming pool I've ever seen at a hotel, it also has a seperate child's pool, plenty of sunbeds and you don't even need to take your own beach towels as the hotel provides them.

It is only a 5 minute walk into the centre of town, and you can walk through the beautiful public gardens on your way.

Fantastic ....

Went with very mixed feelings having read this site. Why is it only Americans complain badly!!!!We were given a room facing road - only noise during day - nothing at night. Room was more than adequate, cleaned daily, bedding changed very frequently. Perfect. Food was fine - restaurant staff helpful and got impression if you were polite they bent over backwards for you - only complaint lighting in evening was a bit dim in the restaurant and salad bar could have been a bit larger. Views from pool/roof terrace second to none. Reception staff helpful and not at all aloof as reported. Really recommend Mount Etna trip. Thoroughly recommend hotel and will return 2005.

Wonderful Experience

by A TripAdvisor Member

My wife and I (and another couple) just spent 3 nights (December 27 - 29, 2004)at the Diodoro and thought it was wonderful.

I emailed ahead and requested rooms overlooking Naxos Bay and Mt. Etna. They certainly came through for us. The views are breathtaking at all hours of the day and night. The gardens are beautiful and well attended, enabling us to pick fresh clementines every morning to snack on while touring.

Adjoining the hotel is an exquisite public garden that stretches from the hotel right into the center of town.

The rooms were more than satisfactory, the food was excellent, and the staff friendly and attentive. It is located slightly below all of the major sites in Taormina and walking/climbing is a breeze.

They have a charming lounge with bar and pianist overlooking the bay. The cleanliness was equal to that found at the best Swiss hotel.
The buffet breakfast was satisfactory.
We were extremely pleased and strongly recommend this facility.

Frequent visitors to the Diodoro - it can't be beaten!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We are frequent visitors to the Diodoro and have to disagree with all of the bad reviews - the staff are more than courteous, helpful and welcoming. The dining room is second to none, the food fantastic (an extremely varied a la carte menu is available) and the views of Mt Etna outstanding. In the evening, you can sit on your balcony, listening to the music from the piano bar and gaze out at the twinkling lights along the coast and out to sea - what a view! By day, there is plenty to do, Taormina is a short walk away and the hotel is situated next to the beautiful public gardens. The pool is extremely well kept and the views absolutely stunning. Book a high room with a sea view and balcony and you won't be disappointed. Unfortunately, most of the guests we met were rude, arrogant and demanding - the staff at the Diodoro have high standards - what a pity they cannot choose their guests!!
