Walk the streets
by johnaalex
The narrow streets of Taormina mean that walking is the best way to get around. If you get tried there are plenty of places to take the weight of your feet, have a snack and glass of wine or just a coffee. There are also plenty of opportunities for some "retail therapy".
A Day Trip to Taormina
by hquittner
"Ups and Downs like all Hill Towns"
Since we were driving we chose to stay on the slopes of Etna (see our Sicily intro for our itinerary) a day trip to Taormina was in order. It is a bustling town (11K pop) and tourist-trap (60+ hotels) carved into a mountainside with a group of beach communities below and a suburb cum hilltown Castel Mola above. Even out of season our hardest task was finding a place to park. Missing the site on the entering road we circled the enite community and C>M> and finally found a spot beyond the Public Gardens off Via Bagnole Croce, Senior citizens may have walking difficulties in T. The slope on Corso Umberto I the main (walking) street is not too bad and there are places to rest on it but the other streets are at rt angles to it and are either up or down. These"alleys" (see picture) may present difficulty. The less expensive or quaint the Hotel or restaurant, the harder the climb! The most interesting sights besides the Greek Theater, were the panorama, some of the churches and old buildings and the gardens, the Parco Duca di Cesaro.
