Piazza Vittorio Emanuele
by sandysmith
A lively square is Piazza Vittorio Emanuele with the taxi rank and cafes but also fine building s of the Santa Caterina Church and the Palazzo Corvaja which now is home to an independent tourist company - worth while to have a look inside its courtyard though. (see next tip)
On the left hand side of the square the road leads to the Greco Roman theatre or you can continue along the main street.
A Popular Sicilian Destination

Taormina is a place that is well known to tour operators and many who get the chance to step onto the island of Sicilia. In terms of appearance, it is everything one could hope for in a town. It is set into the scenic hills and also overlooks the ocean. The feeling here is that you are in another time. Certainly the place is busy in the summer, however there are reasons why so many people want to see such a place. The study of history of course is one good reason. Those who enjoy simple beauty, shopping, and eating will also want to be here. The town itself is one large attraction. True, there are some distinct landmarks which draw visitors in, yet I think any place in this town offers something interesting. A photographer or an artist could spend a lot of time here and not even realize how much time has passed. If your travels bring you to this island, the town of Taormina should be a major priority when deciding which places to visit.
