And more about the theatre...

The engineering solution of a Greek theatre is simple: the whole construction is dug out in the solid rock. In case of Taormina, about 100000 cubic metres of stone had to be replaced - in other words, it's good to have slaves!
The stage of the Taormina theatre is still used today: at the time of my visit posters all around Sicily announced the concert of Julio Iglesias in July 2007. Be quick - and maybe you'll still make it :)
Taormina is a dream. Taormina e' un sogno!

I knew that Taormina is a beautiful place before going there, I've seen its photoes, I knew it's right at the sea, it has some hights and Etna next to it..but what I saw was beyond the expected! It is really a romantic place full of scenaries.
What would be called central part of Taormina isn't a very big place, but with some nice shops, old churches and a square from which a beautiful panorama of the sea and "downtown" can be seen, with many local houses, seashores, hotels, some mountains, it's amazing at night too.
Close to Taormina you'll find also an ancient theather remains, in Taormina apart all the other amazing things - Naxos Gardens are available for your eyes.
Taormina belongs to Catania region of Sicily. On clear days with blue skies , which are available there almost always, you can also see Etna vulcano with his cap of snow.
