Day Trip from Taormina to Reggio di Calabria

by Delsa

I have a day at leisure while staying in Taormina on May 2, 2008. I would like to go from there to Reggio de Calabria to see the Riace Warriors in the Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia. Can anyone give me an idea how I can arrange this? I'll need transportation from and back to Taormina, and preferably an English-speaking guide at the Museum.
I need an answer before April 21, 2008. Thank you.
Delsa

Hi,
The journewy is easy. You can take a train from Taormina to Reggio di Calabria
(journey time - about 2.5 hours incl ferry crossing)
Check out www.treitalia.com for timetables. The cost is around 14 Euros each way

I don't know the location of the museum, so can't help with transport from the station but somebody else may kick in with more advice.

Hi again,
I've done some research and have the following info for you.
Take the train from Taormina to Reggio di Calabria Lido. When you come out of the station at Lido walk across the Piazza Independenza into Via Vollaro and immediately on your left is the Museum.
You can organise an English speaking guide on the spot for 35 Euros per person (1 - 10 people).
Allow 3.5 hours travelling time in both directions.

Taormina is a little town built on the hill which overlooked the ocean, It’s one of Italy’s most famous resorts, I am told Marion Brando has a house in here, the main street is Corse Umberto I, which lined with tourist shops on both sides along with restaurants and shops.

Make sure to try the Italian ice cream “Gelato” at one of the store. Someone told me that ice cream was invented in Sicily by the Romans as they used marathon runners to carry icy snow from the mountains down to the low land for the rich.

From Messina, you can catch a train to Taormina, then transfer to a bus up the hill, the road was really winding but the scenery was great.
