Lovely hotel

Please note, the hotel has been refurbished and remodelled to more of a boutique hotel since my visit.

I stayed one night at the hotel greif. location was outstanding, right on Waltherplatz, basically around the corner from the train/bus station. There was no noise and I slept soundly. The hotel also has rooms with a nice view of the Dolomites, I don't think they had any available at the time of my stay.

the hotel was clean and comfortable, quite spacious. A bit modern considering you were in the historic part of town, but very nice just the same

Would stay here again, location especially good.

Unique Quality: Great views of the mountains.
View of Waltherplatz on the other side.

VERY convenient to the train station, easy walking distance

I had an early train but they were able to get me breakfast, which was very nice.

Service at the hotel was excellent in all respects.

Return journey to Venice

by wrende

Hi everyone. Greetings from England. This is a follow on from the previous thread. My wife and I are travelling from Venice to Bolzano on Sat June 12th and returning to Venice on Tues June 22nd. When I go on the different train sites there are plenty of trains going from Venice to Bolzano via Verona but when I put up the return journey it says there are no trains. I finally found one at 1.05 in the morning but surely people must want to travel both ways! Can anyone please help. Thank you so much.

You are probablylooking too far in advance.

The Trenitalia site does not hold info many days ahead (60?).

There are plenty of daytime trains Bolzano>Venice if I look for the coming week on

http://www.trenitalia.it/homepage_en.html (in English)

Just choose the same day of the week as you will be travelling. Times and fares will not change much, if at all.

Hi Leics

Thank you so much for your reply. Stupid of me not to realise that. I did what you said and certainly there are quite few trains. Thanks again.

Not stupid at all......lots of people make the same error. It's just that different railway info sites hold data for different periods of time in advance.

Enjoy your trip! :-)

Travel Tips for Bolzano

Piazza Walther

by croisbeauty

The Main Square of Bolzano nowadays is called Piazza Walther (von der Vogelweide), after German troubadour, however untill 1814 it was called Johannsplatz. The monument of Walther stands right in the middle of the square. The busy and very spacious Piazza Walther is the centre of the city.

Casa borghese in Piazza Municipio

by croisbeauty

Il Municipio (the Town Hall), situated at beautiful Piazza Municipio, was designed in neo-Baroque style and erected in 1907.
The front facade of the building, and the one that is situated next to it, is nicely coloured with the ornaments. Too bad I didn't take the picture of it under the day light.

Decorations

by vj_nija

You'll probably not see the house or yard without a flower in Bolzano surroundings and probably in all South Tirol. It's the way locals use to attract tourists and to please themselves. And it does not matter what flowers you like - each looks beautifull decoration.

Schio

by croisbeauty

The town of Schio is situated off the main road, in between the towns of Vicenza and Rovereto. We droped here only by chance on our way to Bolzano, but it worth visiting it. The local cathedral is just magificent.

This is something from my field of activities, tessitori means the fabric producers. I was very pleased to see this monument and am not sure if anywhere else exist such an monument.
Whole this area was known for its wool fabrics production, however, due to a costs most of the factories are closed now.
