Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)

With only one night in Bolzano and with my visiting family from the States in tow, convenience was a big factor in choosing a hotel. If you are in town for a short time and traveling by train in Europe, it generally makes sense to stay close to the station providing the area is not too seedy, as can be the case. I didn't know what to expect in Bolzano as on my previous visit ten years earlier, Bolzano was an even shorter stopover on a hiking trip to the Dolomites and we stayed on the highway just outside of town. Hotel Regina got fair reviews on Booking.com and Trip Advisor and certainly had good prices for air-conditioned rooms, something that turned out to be a factor as the weather was particularly hot the day of our visit. The rooms were on the pricey side for me but again with family visiting, it made sense to go with a safe and certainly convenient option.

Unique Quality: The hotel is just opposite the train station and arriving late afternoon/early evening it was easy and quick to get our luggage to the hotel. The lobby was simple but the rooms were modern and nice if on the small size. Our double was €120 per night. A normal single was €75 and the deluxe single was €90. The breakfast buffet was surprisingly good. You don’t generally think you will get a good breakfast in Italy and in a hotel buffet no less, but there was a good variety of things including pastries, fresh fruit as well as eggs and meats and of a decent quality too. They even had fairly good espresso. This helped offset the price of the rooms.

Now that we're settled in, let's go for dinner here

Directions: Literally across the street from the main train station.
