Granvara Hotel: Really nice stay

by sierralyndon

The Granvara is a really nice, well-kept and modern hotel. It's not one of your rustic, traditional hotels - far larger, more professional. So it depends on what you're looking for.

We went for half-board which was an excellent choice. Meals were really good, the waiting staff were always efficient and friendly. The quality of the food was very high, again it's like eating in a fancy restaurant every night. Sometimes it got a bit tiring (esp. during a long stay) and you just long for something simple. Strangely they served quite a lot of seafood, considering how far they are away from the sea!

Didn't use much of the facilities as we went hiking most of the day. The swimming pool which we did take advantage of was wonderful though.

Views from the hotel are splendid. It's so quiet and peaceful.

If you're visiting Val Gardena for the first time I woulnd't recommend this hotel It's set quite a bit away from the town centre of Selva, a bit of a hike. But if you have a car it's OK.

Vöstlhof: Apartment with an awesome view

by tini58de

Staying at the Vöstlhof apartment truly made our vacation most enjoyable! After the first shock was over (that was the "welcome" and the "rules of conduct" given to us by the landlady), we really enjoyed it a lot. And after Frau Pardaller found out that we were suitable guests, she became quite - well - friendly!

The apartment that we stayed in was in a newly built complex, so everything was brand-new! The apartment consisted of two bedrooms, a bathroom with toilet and shower, a separate toilet, a livingroom/diningroom/kitchen and a balcony with a view of the Latemar mountains.

Linens and towels were included, but basic supplies like salt, pepper, oil, dishwashing detergent, extra toilet paper etc. were lacking. Upon our request Mrs. Pardaller's comment was: "well, you have to do something yourself!"

There is a parking lot especially for guests of the Vöstlhof.

The apartment was brandnew, wonderfully equipped with nice furniture and a super modern kitchen and had an awesome view of the Latemar mountains. During the week of our stay we compared it to other places and did not find a single one that had such an outstanding location: quiet, with a great view and yet pretty central.

If desired you can buy fresh products from the farm right there on the spot, like milk, eggs or bacon.

Kastel Seiser Alm - Castelrotto: A pleasant stay - great esp for kids

by sierralyndon

This apartment-hotel is a very short walk from the centre of Castelrotto (Kastelruth). The rooms are well-equipped with the usual kitchen utensils, plates, etc. etc. Supermarkets are nearby so cooking was convenient. Balconies are very spacious.

There is an indoor swimming pool, sauna and a games room. Additionally, for the kids, the playground at the back of the hotel is fantastic.

We stayed there with some friends who were in another apartment. It worked out quite well that we were on the ground floor and could go visit each other going through the playground.

During our stay there, the hotel staff organised a barbecue one evening - we had nice sausages and steak.

Urban Keller: A warm welcome...

by richiecdisc

We knew Bolzano would be expensive rent a room and it was late in the afternoon when we were to arrive, so we opted to stay on the road going into town. It was a typical roadside place, but the owner was a great warm character. He was certainly of German decent and spoke German, but he was a very warm "Italian" kinda guy.

We had our own little flat, with TV, private bath and a nice little porch. The breakfast was a typical German one with great coffee. Even though it was on the main road, it was quiet in the room, thanks to the porch. And it was very easy and quick to get into Bolzano, only about ten minutes. In fact, we wound up staying there two nights. It was 50 Euros for two including breakfast.

Rosenheim: a little bit of Austria in Italy....

by richiecdisc

With no guidebook or any tourist information whatsoever, we basically drove through the small village and looked for something that looked nice and not too expensive. The Rosenheim filled the bill nicely. The room was comfortable and clean, with a nice little balcony with somewhat of a view (well, if you leaned over a bit ;))

The owner was very friendly and spoke German, which was certainly handy. The breakfast room was just lovely, with flowers and a warm oven. It being the offseason, we were the only ones there so it was very comfy. At only 50 Euros for two including a wondeful breakfast, it was great value too. The bread was very interesting, a typical German rye but with anise seeds instead of cumin. This and the obvious prossiutto instead of schinken were nice Italian flairs to a decidedly German "fruhstuck."

Hotel Diamant, San Cassiano: A cosy family-run hotel

by sierralyndon

This is a four star hotel set away from the main road in San Cassiano, which provides some really nice views of the village and surrounding mountains. Take the half-board please. The price difference between room only and room + dinner was €6 per night! And the dinners are spectacular. I dare say we have never eaten so well in a hotel ever! A shame that they served a special Ladin dinner the day we checked out. Would have been nice to try. The hotel has a swimming pool, sauna, etc. Also, they had a cute mini-bowling in the hotel.

The hotel has recently been refurbished and looks different on their website, from when we were there.

We'll be very happy to go back there again and again.

Rosa Alpina Hotel: Something posh...

by sierralyndon

The Rosa Alpina is a Relais & Chateaux hotel, and therefore very pricey. Well-known for its “beauty farm” frequented by the rich and famous. It has a Michelin-rated restaurant, and a grill which is good fun. There is a nice cosy fire-place in the lobby. To be very frank, it was a once-only experience. A bit too posh for us.
