Hotel Vittoria: Our 'Find' in Riva

This was the first and only hotel we checked. We were so impressed with the manner of the desk clerk, and her insistance on our seeing the room prior to making a decision, that we accepted unconditionally.

The location is smack dab in the middle of the old center, within a minute or two of everything. The hotel entrance is rather modest as you can see from the photo, and it has no lobby as such.

The rooms are spotless, modest, and rather small. We expected the room to be a tad damp and cold, but to our great pleasure, it was very comfortable, almost cozy. No seating except for a wooden desk chair. Beds were very comfortable, and we slept wonderfully that night. The bathrooms are tiled, no odours of any sort, and our room had a simple shower compartment, with ample liquid soap.

Heating was supplied by a central system, not hot water pipes, so I assume it has A/C as well, but I don't know for sure. Sorry, my oversight.

Rooms include a shower, bidet, safe, lots of thick towels, and extra blankets. The door has a card system as opposed to keys, adding to the security factor.

There is no doubt that Ma Kettle and I will return to this hotel next time we visit Riva.

Unique Quality: Hotel Vittoria has an attached restaurant called Ristorante Kapuziner am See, which serves typical Bavarian food. Access is off the hotel side, or via Viale Dante. Excellent meal, great service, wonderful atmosphere, reasonable price. We wandered the centre for an alternative, but our hotel restaurant seemed to be the most appealing for us that night.

Breakfast was simple, but included boiled eggs, breads, rolls, meats, cheeses, cereal, yogurts, and German style coffee, not espresso. We had the breakfast room to ourselves that morning, which says a lot about the hotel not skimping on service during off season.
