Selva Castle and a valley to the east
by dabidc
The path to the castle seemed to also lead into a valley to the north of the Grodner Joch, the pass to the east of Selva. This valley led northeast and was much clearer from the ruined castle.
I managed to take two photos before the goats decided that my presence was a threat. Or I decided that I would prefer to leave unscarred, to travel another day in this glorious Val Gardena.
PASS PORDOI

It takes the bus a good hour to get from Selva up to the Pass Pordoi. The sella group may look like on e big mountain but there is actually a chasm/valley running through the middle. This valley can be hiked in summer and skied off piste in winter with a guide. Please note the Pass Pordoi funicular is not valid with the Gardena Pass - you'll have to fork out extra for it.
Make sure you use the facilities at the cafe at the top - this loo looks a bit dicey in windy weather!
Even in the summer there were patches of snow up here and it was cold so wrap up warm and wear appropriate shoes. We only made it to the Rif. Boe (took just over an hour) and we were glad of a hot chocholate here to warm us up. Its a very isolated spot.
If you're out of dosh or feeling adventurous you could walk up/down instead of taking the cable-car. But be warned this is where the path starts/ends..... and its virtually a straight drop - you will need ropes and a head for heights!
