Dolomite hiking

Alta Via 1 and 2 are the finest long-distance trails through the Dolomites. Alta Via 1 is 120km long and requires up to ten days; Alta Via 2 is 150km long, is generally higher and needs about 18 days.

Running north/south through the heart of the Dolomites, the two trails connect the Tyrolean Val Pusteria with the fringes of the Venetian plain and pass thorugh a variety of landscape, from alpine meadows and foothills to the rugged heights of the central Dolomites. The terrain varies from easy strolls to via feratta (iron ladders)

The Pension and indeed most of S Cristina was located north of Sasso Lungo and that mountain was ever present looming on the horizon.

There was ample opportunity to take photos through the day.

The 4 day stay in the valley was sun filled and mostly clear
