The valley paralled a high level trek to Rif Puez.

Difficult to tell from the small map that I have if the path along the valley led to the Rifugio Pruz or if the path to the Rifugio was way above the floor of the valley.
I did not explore further, maybe leave that for another visit. I turned to head west and back above Selva to S Cristina.
Puez Hut Hike

"Map of Hike"
This is a long hike - allow 6-7 hours - but the varied views are fantastic. It is part of the Dolomite path.
We started by taking the Dantercepes Gondola in Selva. In the picture there is a clear view down the Gardena Valley.
Not far from the gondola station you get a view of the Cirspitze needle-shaped range - somewhere we have to climb through this! A deserted rifugio can be seen at the base of the picture.
Here is a group of friends doing the hike with us - you can see how steep, dry and dusty the route is through the Cir but it is well way-marked.
We eventually made it through to more open landscape.
The hut was a welcome sight and the landscape became greener. Good lunch spot here. Prices are elevated here due to its isolated position though.
Another beautiful crucifix up here.
Not far from the Puez Hutte on the way back look out for faces in the rock!
Here a view on the way down. The cleft in the rock marks the head of the Vallunga valley and there is actually a path down to the valley below but its very steep and none of our party liked the look of it!
Here we are at the beginning of the descent - our target the Vallunga Valley in Selva can be seen way below. Also the Sassolungo can be seen - its hard not to be able to see it in Selva!
Finally the end of the Vallunga valley - the tiny Silvester Chapel can be seen in the foreground.
