Friedrich August Weg

A favourite easy to moderate hike was to take the bus from Selva up to the Sellajoch Pass and then hike the Friedrich August Weg (path 594) which takes you around the base of the Sassopiato -incredible views in good weather - and passes several huts where you can get refreshments if needed. From here you have umpteen choices for hikes on the Alpe di Suisi or you can continue the contour around the Sassolungo group (path 526) and descend via Monte Pana lift to St Christina or further round on the Ciampinoi lift to Selva. Which ever option it will be a memorable hike.

Not much soil to support grass or tree growth, maybe enough for a small flock of sheep. A building to protect them from the winter conditions. A far cry from the easy life available in the town below.
