Winter in the Dolomites
Winter is also a wonderful time to explore the Dolomites. Paths are opened for winter walkers as well as pistes for the skiers...and sledge runs. In fact so many activities to enjoy.
This view is of the Scillar range from Alp de Suisi - beautiful isn't it.
Dolomite Winter Wonderland
The dolomites lured me back after a wonderful summer holiday in Selva I just had to see those peaks in the winter. Its not practical to climb down the Sassolungo as I did in the summer but the views approaching from Alp de Suisi are fab.
On the opposite side to the Sassolungo and Sassopiato range is sunny Col Raiser which is reached by a gondola at St. Christina just a short distance down the valley from Selva. Great mountaain restaurant here with wonderful views in all directions.
From the restaurant there is a winter path to the Regensburgehutte -although you do have to cross the ski piste at one point. Snow-shoes are available for hire but I just had snow moon boots on and that was OK.
Views from the path - glorious, with snow falling off the trees around me.
After 45 mins the hut was reached - time for that hot chocolate.
This is how the hut looked in the summer - the sun was still shining. In summer a whole variety of paths cross this hut.
