German/Italian
by sandysmith
In Selva you will find names of places are signed in Italian and German - for example selva is the Italin and Wolkenstein its german equivalent. Some people are quite stuffy about it too. We got on the bus once to take us back to Selva and having stated our destination in the Italian the driver looked so grumpy at us and barked out "no Wolkenstein"!! No wonder the buses have the acronym SAD!!
DOLOMITTEN SMITTEN!

Selva in the Val Gardena is a great centre for all levels of hiking and mountaineering and experts can tackle the via ferata (iron ladders). The valley is flanked by mountains on either side and at the head is the wonderful Sella Group.
Enjoyed 2 wonderful weeks in the summer with so many different hiking options to enjoy and the cable-car transport for a helping hand. I just love being in these mountains with their jagged peaks and could easily return to do different hikes.
I was so smitten with the beautiful Dolomite mountains here that we returned for a winter holiday....I love to see the same places in different seasons.
