The Arezzo museum for medieval and modern art is situated in the palazzo Bruni. It has some nice statues, coins, paintings, etc. from the middleages and the centuries after. Don't expect to find contemporairy art. In Italian historiography the word 'modern' means the same as we should call 'early modern' i.e. the fifteenth to the eighteenth century.
It also has a huge amount of painted porcelain plates, whish I personallt found very ugly. But since there were mythological scenes painted on it, it was nice guessing which story it represented.
Futhermore also this museum doesn't have much visiters, though it is bigger than the archeological museum. There was a museumguard who was litterary following me all the time. Don't let it make you nervous.
And by the way, also this museum was free for everyone under 19.
Be sure to pay attention to the many variations of doorways in Arezzo. Some are really striking, like this one.
Arezzo's symbol is a black horse looking as though it is about to charge. While graffiti abounds everywhere in Italian, I especially liked the Arezzian horse smoking a fat one on this wall - anyone who speaks Italian knows what it says? Hopefully nothing too profane...
Motorbikes are very common here, be careful as you round corners! I almost got my toes severed from one speeder...
Arezzo is known for its antiques, but is not a really the place for the casual interest in old stuff. Many of the pieces are thousands upon thousands of euros!
It's nice to dream though.
This shot was taken on a particularly antique-laden street, Via di Senteria. When I came back the next day, the display had already changed to something equally artful and classy.
The houses of Arezzo are wonderful. Most are either made of stone or peachy stucco and have great architectural lines.
This photo is a bit jarring, but I slapped it up because it was interesting and also shows the different layers of history in Arezzo's architecture.
A good example of the stone architecture that pervades Arezzo's atmosphere. I have found some cities made of stone to feel rather "chilly" in atmosphere, but there is something about this particular stone that exudes more warmth and welcome. I'm sure it also helps that many buildings are stucco.
