Travel Tips for Arezzo

Museo Archeologico di Arezzo

by miedje

The archeological museum of Arezzo is situated near the roman amphitheatre. Unfortunately not much of the old theatre is left and when I was there they we're busy organising excavations of open air opera's or something like that. The museum is small but worth seeing. It was some nice Roman vases, statues and jewelry. Futhermore there are also some etruscan remains to be seen. The museum doesn't have much visiters, even in summer, so you'll have the museum for yourself. The personnel is very helpful, but also almost walking behind you contantly, because you're the only visiter (the same is true of the Arezzo museum for medieval and modern art). Still it's a very nice small museum, to see a little bit of the ancient times. And for everyone below 19, it is free (and it was 2 days before my 19th birthday!).

another "wow" town ...

"It's just great !"

Arezzo is a beautiful town not far from Florence and other beauties of Tuscany. So if you're there somewhere, just go visit it, it's a great destination for even a one day trip.
I went there in July 2002 with my friend to visit some friends. We stayed in a cute B&B 5 minutes from the center. It wasn't expensive and the owner is a really nice lady that we promised ourselves we're about to visit again one day.
Atthe beginning of July there's a huge music festival in Arezzo, called Arezzo Wave. The speciality of it is that it's totally free.
What we really loved about this town was the people. They're just warm and friendly like nowhere else (Ok, South excluded;)).
The prices are just like everywhere in Italy and you have many beautiful things to see that are totally for free.
It's a clean town with a great old center and some really nice surroundings, like the zoological garden.
If you're going there during the Arezzo Wave festival, make sure to have a reservation or you won't find anything available.
