Bagni di Lucca Hotels

Corona Hotel (Albergo Corona): Great Hotel, Relaxing, Lovely Views

Every once in awhile, the hotel gods shine down upon you and you happen to find a relatively undiscovered hotel that has everything going for it AND is run by friendly, normal people.

While not located in the city of Bagni di Lucca, it is just a few minutes away in another small town that is propped over and on either side of a pretty river. The town has all the essential "ias" - lively bar and gelateria, a few osterias, tabaccheria, etc.

First of all, the room....it was tastefully done, nothing was cheaply slapped together, right down to the dark-wood framed artwork. The bed was large, there was a small table and chair, bedside tables, and an armoire with mirrors. The walls were painted a warm color, and it reinforced that feeling of being in Italy.

The bathroom was all newly done ... plenty of light, easily enough storage for two people, a large mirror, great shower...and one of the best views I've ever had from a bathroom!

The views are really lovely from the rooms. You can lie on your bed and look onto the lush green hills and pretty old buildings, while relaxing to the sound of the river rushing by.

Breakfast was set in a brightly painted room, again very well-done. The tables are in front of floor-to-ceiling windowed doors that open out onto a terrace, so you also have a great view. Breakfast included fresh pastries (3 types of croissants), fresh cakes, rolls, ham, cheese, and either coffee or tea quickly served to you by a very polite signora.

Finally, the price was the best value I found throughout my trip ... 70 euros including breakfast.

I have to say that I have found few places where I can say it was truly a pleasure to stay there. I highly recommend it and will definitely go back there again.

PS: The hotel also has a ristorante and gives Tuscan cooking courses!
