More about Casa Portagioia
Tuscany's Best B&B / Agritourismo
by wilfilius about Casa Portagioia
My husband and I just returned from a marvelous trip to Italy. If your Italian travels include Tuscany, the one place you should not miss is Casa Portagioia. The Tuscan setting is spectacular; Casa Portagioia is in a peaceful valley just outside the Tuscan community of Castilion Fiorentino. The lodgings, as well as all the facilities, are immaculate with attention to detail evident everywhere. In fact, the pictures posted on the web site – www.tuscanbreaks.com – are unable to fully convey the beauty of Casa Portagioia. [Be careful if you do a google search for Casa Portagioia. Instead of finding the Agritourismo/B&B, you will be directed to booking agencies.]
Terry and Marcello are marvelous hosts--fun to be around [but never intrusive], full of helpful knowledge and insights about Tuscany, and very welcoming. They have that special gift of making guests feel like family. And, as if all this were not enough, Marcello is an excellent chef. We enjoyed one of Marcello’s Saturday night dinners, and it was one of the best dinners of our trip. His homemade fruit tart [actually more a torte] with marscapone sauce was to-die-for. Plus, his daily breakfasts were wonderful–complete with a bountiful assortment of fresh fruit, choice of cereals, delicious breads, freshly cooked eggs, yogurt, juice, and the best-ever-coffee with all the refills of coffee one could desire.
Thanks to Terry and Marcello’s graciousness, hospitality, sense of humor and hard work, we had a wonderful time during our October 2006 stay at their beautiful, and aptly named, Casa Portagioia. The only thing that could have improved our stay was better planning on my part. Instead of the few days we reserved, we should have booked Casa Portagioia for our entire Tuscan vacation. Next time we will! Casa Portagioia is a beautifully restored Tuscan estate, complete with a pool that offers panoramic views. In fact, the all the views of the Valle di Chio are spectacular--heavenly sunsets, peaceful valley, beautiful foothills.
Tuscany B&B / Inn with charm
by Thomasbroce about Casa Portagioia
Bearing mind that the rest of our trip was spent in hotels, this was the really outstanding accommodation of our stay in Tuscany.
The inn is situated in a valley surrounded by olive groves, and Tuscan vegetation. The surrounding hills, dotted with small villages are breathtaking when sitting by the pool or even having breakfast. We even heard a cuckoo along with the other birds.
The whole place has been beautifully restored with so much attention to detail – although all the modern facilities you would expect from a good hotel.
The attention to detail and service was refreshing. The pool is set on a small hillside overlooking the accommodation with views in every direction. The valley is one of the most beutiful and unspolt.
We even caught glympses of some of the local farmers - many of them in their mid to late seventies, caring for the land and making it perfect for us "townies"

We stayed here for a week in mid-September. I vouch for every positive thing that has been written about this place and Terry and Marcello. Peaceful, quiet place with fun and very helpful hosts. The best part of our extensive trip.
Here's a way you can help them. Book directly instead of going through sites that skim a hefty commission for nothing more than being a useless interface. You can contact Terry and Marcello at: [---]

Gorgeous retreat in Tuscany

Casa Portagioia is a gorgeous property in Tuscany, with excellent accommodations, beautiful scenery, delicious breakfasts, and very helpful owners/managers. Marcello and Terry are generous with assistance for travel arrangements in the area, for booking restaurants, and for making reservations fort museums in Florence.
The experience was a highlight of a two week vacation in Italy.

3 friends and I stayed at Casa Portagioia for 3 nights of our 2 week stay in Italy. Terry and Marcello were wonderful and made our time there extra special. They helped us book tours, make reservations and gave us directions to different sites. I wished we could have stayed longer. I would definitely recommend this beautiful bed and breakfast with its wonderful owners that make all their guests feel like welcomed friends into their home.
Tuscany at it finest !

My partner and I just returned from two weeks in Italy. By far the best four days were spent at Casa Portagioia. This was the best accomodations that I have ever had traveling. The hosts Terry & Marcello are running a top notch B&B. The rooms and the grounds are beautiful, the breakfasts were amazing and the company was great. Two nights we had gourmet five course meals prepared by Marcello, the best meals we had in all of Italy. Every review is saying the same and every other guest that we met said the same thing, this place was the most comfortable vacation spot I've been to. As you will read, about Terry and Marcello are like family by the time you leave. I could have stayed all summer. I definitley will return and will give it my highest recommendaation to anyone that travels to Tuscany. Thanks for a very memorable time. Jim & Dan

Tuscan Treasure

We had about 10 days to explore Tuscany - not enough by any means!
We booked a couple of nights at a hotel in Florence and another couple in Siena. Each was OK, but nothing so special. For 5 nights, we stayed at Casa Portagioia - very memorable with charming and caring hosts.
Besides the incredibly clean and comfortable room, we also managed to spend a day at Casa Portagioia and using the lovely heated pool. Lovely just to sit and relax, taking in the surrounding valley, hills and small Tuscan villages.
The owners were also incredibly helpful. They arranged a couple of tours to vineyards and for us to attend a special lunch at one of the top wine producers in Tuscany - a 7 courser! They also made recommendations and gave us up to date information for other trips and tours. Most useful as the guidebooks can be a little out of date.
We also had dinner there. Marcello is the cook and a great job he does too. We had five courses, some excellent wine and, some Vin Santo to go with his incredible Pear and Almond Tart. Although we had our own table, there was a wonderful atmosphere whichg we were able to share with the other guests and the hosts. It was, perhaps, our best evening in Tuscany and certainly one of the best meals.
We can't thank Terry and Marcello enough for taking care of us and making our stay so much more pleasurable. Certainly a place we would go back to and recommend to our friends.
