The best modern spa hotel in chianciano terme

    by

I've been in Chianciano terme last year around april for one night and I've splept in this wonderful modern hotel. It's a 4* superior hotel close the the city center, with a beautiful spa. They have an inside restaurant where to eat typical toscana food. It for sure an hotel centrally located for your visit into the southern tuscany and for a great relax.

Rooms are modern, new and big.

    Unique Quality: spa center

WHAT TO DO THERE?

by friendly3330

Hi Again...
Looking up Chianciano Terme on the internet, we see a lot of hotels, spas, but not much else. Does anyone know what else there is to do in this place?
Any places of interest?
Thanks for the help..

Sadly, I have not been to Chianciano Terme, but I have been a couple of times to Chiusi, which shares a train station with Chianciano Terme (although it's really closer to Chiusi).

Chiusi is an Etruscan town that was the home of the legendary Lars Porsena (well, he was probably a real person, just a long time ago). It's no surprise that Chiusi has a cute little national museum, Etruscan tombs on the outskirts of town (if you have a car, you can ask the staff if one of them will go with you out to the tombs to unlock the gate), and a network of tunnels under the city dating from the Etruscan era (never got to see these). We did eat at Zaira (the only restaurant open when we wanted to have lunch after 2 p.m., see http://www.zaira.it/italiano.htm [Italian only, but pretty pictures of the grotto underneath the restaurant]), where, if the owner likes you, he'll take you downstairs into the wine cellar, which was actually hollowed out by the Etruscans more than 2,000 years ago.

NOTE: if anyone wants to buy an Italian restaurant, the owner of Zaira wants to retire (after 50 years(!)), and would be happy to sell it to you ;-)

Anyway, we found Chiusi a very pleasant place, if you're into a little history...
